Really???

Can you show me a link that verifies the fact that the parents or any advocate for Mrs. Schiavo went to a State Court to have the marriage terminated as a result of Mr. Schiavo's actions relative to his "new life"?

I can not seem to find when that case was brought before State Court.

I await. Thak you.

There is no legal basis under which you can bring such a suit. NONE, NADA. You can not file for a divorce on someone else's behalf. This is just silly. The only 2 people that can file for divorce are Michael or Terri. Because Terri is incapacitated, her court appointed guardian, in this case Michael, could do it on her behalf. The attempts to remove Michael as her guardian have been made including your argument. The court ultimately rejected it. Repeating the same argument won't get you a new hearing.

Bella, I've posted sources a few times.

The term is persistent vegetative state. Not brain dead. The confusion is that while she has no cognitive function, she has some brain function. The "cognitive" part is the important part. While her brain can regulate things such as breathing, and creates confusing reflexes such as smiling, she is not a thinking being. She is not aware of her own existence.

This is one of the best single sources I found:

From my understanding of PVS, the part that allows us to have cognition is dead, but that part of the brain that allows Terri to smile, wake and sleep, and have eye movement is still operative.

I have also heard that removing her feeding tube and water will allow Terri to die a peaceful death, and there will be no suffering.

More disgusting evidence of the political motivations behind this:

Quote:
One thing that God has brought to us is Terri Schiavo, to help elevate the visibility of what is going on in America," Mr. DeLay told a conference organized by the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian group. A recording of the event was provided by the advocacy organization Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

"This is exactly the issue that is going on in America, of attacks against the conservative movement, against me and against many others," Mr. DeLay said.

Mr. DeLay complained that "the other side" had figured out how "to defeat the conservative movement," by waging personal attacks, linking with liberal organizations and persuading the national news media to report the story. He charged that "the whole syndicate" was "a huge nationwide concerted effort to destroy everything we believe in."

In three little paragraphs, Tom has called the woman with a liquified cerebral cortex a gift from God, compared her situation to his own, and used her to uncover a vast left-wing conspiracy determined to topple Tom DeLay and the values of America conservatism. Look behind you kids. Yeah, that's right, wave to the shark. Yeah, keep watching the shark. Those men taking Uncle Tom away are doing it for his own good, but he wouldn't want you to watch.

I'll be the first to plead guilty by initially describing Terri as braindead. My bad. Won't happen again. I was lazy at first, too, Bella. There is much we are learning regarding this condition, with most of it having to do with how a power hungry political party can use it to distract the American people from one of the most corrupt and morally bankrupt administrations in recent memory.

When any team gets too cocky and sure of themselves, that's when they start making mistakes, because they think they can do no wrong. They forgot to look at their own past history (Bush's law in Texas), and their rhetoric about the "sanctity of marriage."

They also have completely forgotten the definition of hypocrisy.

I am one of those that called Terri "brain dead" without having complete information. For that, I apologize, and will never use that term again concerning Terri Schiavo.

"Chronic vegetative state," I believe, is the correct medical term. Of course, the all-knowing Dr. Frist is offering a second opinion from several hundred miles away...

Soz- Wonderful article. It cuts right to the chase, without all the extraneous "stuff". The Schiavo story IS tragic, on many levels, but has gotten completely out of hand.

Brandon, You're beating a dead horse. Court appointed doctors have already tested Terri for congnition, and the overwhelming judgement called for PVS.
