Aretha Franklin will be truly missed. I have fond memories of her music from my childhood. Especially during the 1970s. Although we knew this day was coming, I couldn't hold back my tears when hearing of her passing. I send out my prayers and condolences to her family.

Local (Detroit) Tv and radio stations tributing her today. She sure was a treasure!

Her personal life, however, was often in chaos. I don’t know who was her personal financial manager, but she was notorious for not paying her bills to vendors and staff. I doubt if you would have gotten a carpet cleaner, gardener or carpenter to service her in the last 5 years. Lots of financisl issues going on in her life. She supported many members of her family who became her “entourage” She had plans to open a museum and restaurant in Detroit. Pancreatic cancer.

Big hearted lady with a huge talent. No one will ever be like the Queen.

A wonderful woman with the voice of an angel. RIP Ms. Franklin.

"Music does a lot of things for a lot of people. It’s transporting, for sure. It can take you right back, it’s uplifting, it’s encouraging, it’s strengthening."

May she Rest In Peace.

Man, that’s sad. At least we had her and her gorgeous voice for as long as we did. Whenever I had her voice, I would stop whatever I was doing and listen.

Aretha, I say a little 🙏 for you!

@jcboy,
First came across Aretha in the Blues Brothers movie, a bit late in the day, but my god she could belt it out.
My Missus was a big fan.

May she R.I.P.

@Ragman,
Did she write the lyrics to the songs that she sang?

Did she create the music for the songs that she sang?

@gollum,

Hard to say how accurate either list is, but it's a start.

@jespah,
jespah-

Thank you.

I am not sure how to construe the term "songs written."

Does it mean that she created the tune or that she wrote the lyrics?

I have long thought that the singer of a great hit gets too much credit, while the creator of the tune and the lyrics receives too little credit (if any).
