We recently had our house painted and within a couple of months, the paint in several places (bathroom, hall near bathroom, downstairs not-often-used 1/2 bath) started to crackle. My guess is water impacting the paint but this seemed to happen fairly quickly.

Any thoughts?

Crackle just in a few spots or in large areas? Bathrooms are often painted with gloss or semi-gloss paints and if they didn't rough the surface the new coat may not have adhered evenly which will give you the crackled appearance as the new coat dried.
