you got that right...and how bout the Dramatics? Remember their tunes?

The Dramatics mus'n't have broke in UK coz I don't recall them at all. They were in the Chilites mould I presume.

Here's a top 3 for early Kool and the Gang:
Let the music take your mind
Jungle Jazz
Light of worlds Smile

"Hey You..Get off My Mountain"

"Me and Mrs. Jones'

"Fell For You"

"Get Up and Get Dowm"

"Toast to the Fool"

(A few more Dramatics hits) Actually T, they were more Dell's wannabe's ... and fairly decent at it.

Almost impossible to narrow it down to three....

Devil with a blue dress on Little Richard
Breathless Jerry Lee Lewis
Smoke gets in your eyes Platters
Smokey Joe's Cafe Coasters
Don't you just know it Huey Louis
.....

That is if you're limiting it to rock....

The Dells ring a bell, and it rhymes...

As for limiting it to rock, well I'm doing favorite 3 of favorite groups now, for example:

Nazareth:
This flight tonight
Razamanaz
Shanghai'd in Shanghai Smile

All great songs from the days when I went to sleep by the AM radio sounds of Jack Alix on WEEL radio.

Just a small correction. "Don't you just know it" is by Huey "Piano" Smith and the Clowns , a collection of New Orleans session men.

I've heard Rufus is talented also. I will check him out.

Loudon has a wonderful baritone voice in the balladeer tradition. Check out "Songbird" a lovely but melancholy number.

In the 70's Loudon Wainwright III [as he was billed] did a concert for BBC in the UK. I'd never heard of him but he was excellent, the highlight was a song called "Dead skunk in the middle of the road" which featured an instrumental chorus, after the live audience had had their turn, "for all the people at home, singing round the television ya'll". Brilliant. A good memory. Smile

Love his version of Hallelujah!

Quote:
I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty
in the moonlight
overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne,
she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe I've been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time you'd let me know
What's real and going on below
But now you never show it to me do you?
Remember when I moved in you?
The holy dark was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there's a God above
And all I ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It's not a cry you can hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hoover factory
A man out of time

Leonard Cohen wrote it. Bob Dylan's favorite verse was the last one ....

Quote:
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
