The only person that I saw accepting any award all night that didn't seem like a complete phony was Clint Eastwood. It's nice to know there is at least one real person left in Hollywood. The rest of them, including Jamie Foxx, seemed like they were up there "acting" when they made their acceptance speech. Except Hillary Swank, maybe--she might really be that much of an annoying bitch.

That was a really annoying speech. And it pissed me off that she got like, 4 minutes and they cut Clint off during his Best Picture speech. Rolling Eyes

Kicky, I thought that Dustin Hoffman was rather strange. Maybe he was striving for being understated, and you're right about Clint. Hey, he doesn't have to act, does he.

Bella, so sorry that you lost the pool, but I'll bet you were as gracious as were the rest of the losers. Razz

HA! I wish the fleas of a thousand camels to infest the winners crotches and their arms be too short to scratch!

Well, my goodness, Bella. You lost your avatar as well. That was hilarious. Camels do get a raw deal occasionally.

Jamie Foxx was sincere. His speech was similar to his Golden Globe acceptance. Both times he stopped speaking as he fought back tears when thanking his grandmother. And he said his daughter told him before the winner was announced, "Daddy, even if you don't win, you're still good." Very sweet.

Sozobe, H.S. thanked Chad at the very beginning of her speech stating that she wanted to demonstrate to all that she learns from her mistakes.

I guess Chad's reaction in the audience as acting, too. Although Tinsel Town has it's share of phony facades, I didn't see nearly as much of it in this production of the Oscars. Chris Rock was edgy and went out-on-the-limb several times with great effect. I see some personalities take his humor way too seriously.

Of course. These people are trained actors, and actors act. I'm sure that few acceptance speeches have not been pre-written, self edited and rehearsed; even Sally Fields' famous "You like me!" and Jamie Foxx's heartfelt speech Sunday. Yes, I am a cynic.

I don't know if that's cynical -- I think it could be spot on. Even ad-libs that weren't pre-written can come off as acted. It doesn't necessarily mean they are insincere but maybe too programmed? Many accused Halle Berry as acting in here tearful acceptance at the Golden Globes and the Oscars -- it doesn't really bother me a great deal.
