Trump said that the media is the enemy of the people

It shouldn't take a constitutional scholar to realize that Trump is attempting to destroy the freedom of the press/media. It's the first time in American history that the president of this country called the media "the enemy." I just wonder why so many are in support of president Trump. Trump has already proven he is ignorant about the US Constitution, the economy, and of facts. Even some republicans are talking about "impeachment." His approval rating is now at 42%, but his average is 39%, one of the lowest in 40 years. https://www.washingtonpost.com/

"An outspoken free press is one of the great obstacles to demagogues, who prefer simplistic propaganda to open public debate. The Trump government exemplifies this maxim. It loathes both honest reportage and critical opinion, it seeks to brand uncomfortable truths as lies, and through making direct contact with its audience it tries to evade the filters of fact-checking and sceptical assessment. Whether or not Trump and his entourage understand this, these moves propel them ineluctably into the realm of history’s past masters of political propaganda and the repression of dissent."

@coluber2001,
That's the reason why Trump has a simplistic answer, "fake news," without providing what is fake. Unfortunately, many Trump supporters are also duped into thinking the media cannot be relied upon to state facts - without ever providing evidence to the contrary. Ignorance must be a blessing for Trump supporters. When most are older, white, uneducated men, what can anyone expect?

@cicerone imposter,
What worries me most about blanket statements such as these, is that his followers grow ever more fanatical in their belief that Trump is the next best thing to God. They'll take this sort of statements as dogma, and worse, given that in the US of A people have the right to 'defend themselves': if the president declares the media to be the enemy, how long before such people feel justified to 'defend' their USA and their president from such 'enemies' of the people?

@najmelliw,
They become fanatical, because they are uneducated. They can be swayed to believe anything that sounds good, and Trump is good at making statements at the 4th grade level.

Sadly with virtually everything in the media the facts generally are in there BUT typically there will always be some kind of bias in the story whatever it is. Some will not even cover a story at all! My belief is that whatever is reported you (the individual) have to make up your own mind as to what you believe.

Everything that Trump says sounds like he just pulled it out of his ass, and therefore, we learn to consider his words as just that, ass emanations.

@coluber2001,
Actually, what Trump says proves how ignorant he is. He hasn't a clue about the US Constitution, and has his economic policies backwards. His tariffs will only end up costing more for American consumers, and that also means less jobs. Trump is a moron: Trust me. https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=AwrXmeO.GhNbpGMAGfUPxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTByNWU4cGh1BGNvbG8DZ3ExBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?p=proof%2C+trump+is+a+moron&fr=yhs-pty-pty_weather&hspart=pty&hsimp=yhs-pty_weather

Here is somebody else who said the free press was the enemy of the people. Joseph Goebbels and his lovely wife Magda who murdered their children and committed suicide 3 years after this photo was taken. Magda's son from a previous marriage, Harald--uniformed in back row--was not present at the murders and survived.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cc/Bundesarchiv_Bild_146-1978-086-03%2C_Joseph_Goebbels_mit_Familie.jpg/220px-Bundesarchiv_Bild_146-1978-086-03%2C_Joseph_Goebbels_mit_Familie.jpg
"The Goebbels family in 1942: (back row) Hildegard, Harald Quandt, Helga; (front row) Helmut, Hedwig, Magda, Heidrun, Joseph and Holdine. (In this well-known manipulated image, the visage of the uniformed Harald, who was away on military duties when the photo was taken, was inserted and retouched.)

The Goebbels children were the five daughters and one son born to Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels and his wife Magda Goebbels. The children, born between 1932 and 1940, were murdered by their parents in Berlin on 1 May 1945, the day both parents committed suicide.

Magda Goebbels had an older son, Harald Quandt, from a previous marriage to Günther Quandt. Then aged 23, he was not present when his younger half-siblings were killed."

@cicerone imposter,
Would you please link in or cite an actual quote in which Trump said that the media is the enemy of the people?

@Agent1741,
I think we all do that to some degree, but I also think many are credible media, and report facts. That's one of the reasons Trump hates the media.

So, you cannot give any example of him saying that the media is the enemy of the people. But you don't really care if it's true, do you?

On October 11, 2017 President Plump "tweeted":

With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!

I confidently expect the Trumpbots to point out that the word enemy isnot used in that tweet. Plump could say that the media is the enemy, and it wouldn't matter to hard core conservatives.

@Brandon9000,
Quote:
President Trump, in an extraordinary rebuke of the nation’s press organizations, wrote on Twitter on Friday that the nation’s news media “is the enemy of the American people.”

Even by the standards of a president who routinely castigates journalists — and who on Thursday devoted much of a 77-minute news conference to criticizing his press coverage — Mr. Trump’s tweet was a striking escalation in his attacks.

Weird. When I read it, it said, "The fake news media," not "the news media." Have any other quotations?

@Brandon9000,
Well, geez, maybe you're right. I must be following Goebbel's and Trump's examples.

@cicerone imposter,

If you read the text of Trump's actual tweet in the article you link in above, he says only that the fake news media are the enemy of the people. I believe that to justify your original post, you would need an example of him saying that the news media in general are the enemy of the people.
