I am looking for information on an artist named R.I.Pena, whom I have two small oil paintings by. THey are both landscapes of Oran Algeria. Does anyone have any info about this Artist?
I think these paintings may have once belonged to President Woodrow Wilson
The only Pena I know of is Amado Pena who's figurative art of Indian subjecs were popular in the 70's and 80's (one can still find posters online). I think you might try the Who's Who in American Art at the local library. You might also submit photographs to Arts and Antiques magazine for authentication and appraisal.
thanks Lightwizard
I have looked into that artist, and a couple more penas. I think this artist might be spanish, the paintings being of Algeria. These two paintings have writing in pen across the top saying " Your Exellency the President of the United states Washington DC Mr Woodrow Wilson. I thought Exellency was sort of European, and Wilson Visited Algeria with some Navy Battleships
It makes it more difficult if it's a foreign artist producing work in his country as the Who's Who books are less realiable. I'd pick up an issue of Arts and Antiques and see how to go about sending in a photo and description. Not sure what their present policy is as I no longer subscribe.
thanks aain I have emailed the edtor to Arts and Antiques, and am now awaiting a response
