No offense to you at all Wolf_dog_lover, but you don't seem mature enough to handle a wolf. I just don't think you realize how much is involved.

You mean like watching your wife, kids, neighbors, cattle, horses etc. etc. all get eaten??

No, that's not what I mean! Stop being so dramatic gunga!

I've posted several real-life esperiences of people having to deal with wolves in the south 48. Have youread any of them? I mean, "pretty dramatic" seems to be about the norm...

Hey Timber, whats the line on the Iditerod this year? Its begins like mid March no?

We use galvanized woven wire for the sheep and several times a day well put the dogs in a pasture and work them with the sheep. Thye love it and , if Im out of town and theyve not been well exercised while Im gone, you can see it when I get them out the next time. They try to make me a second in line pack member (thats my wifes position) So I have to roll around with them and hold em down and play with em till they fall in line again. Its all done with a firm hand and NO VIOLENCE. Your dogs should love and respect you, not cower.
I hate people who own dogs that anyone can see , are in constant fear of them. Such people should own PET ROCKS

The start of this year's run was Mar 5. The current leader, Paul Gebhardt, has cleared the Shageluk checkpoint, a bit more than half-way to the finish, and should be nearing the Anvik checkpoint as I type. The women's leader is 4th place musher Ally Zirkle, who has just cleared the Iditarod checkpoint, enroute to Shageluk. Gebhardt looks strong, but 4-time winner Bob Sorlie, in 2cnd place as of this morning, due to arrive in Shageluk shortly, has led at several checkpoints, and is maintaining a very good pace. Doesn't look as though this year's race will be a record setter, but its running fairly fast. A real surprise was yesterday's scratch by 5-time winner Rick Swenson, his first in 29 races. Down to 11 dogs, with 2 more falterin', he sadly declared his team just wasn't up to it this year.

Two great sites for Iditarod followers (and I am one - surprise Shocked  )

I ain't gonna point ya to any, but many of the offshore wagerin' sites have plays on the Iditarod - there are lotsa options.

The leaders oughtta be pullin' into Nome a little less than 4 days from now, if the weather remains cooperative - sorta hard to be more precise than that; its a race Laughing

Bet on a dog race? Sure, dogs are usually pretty honest. Introduce the human element with a sled, and I'm not so sure.

Of course I have read it all Gungasnake.

Some of it is full on, but also sum things I've heard haven't been that bad.

Wolfdogs have a bad temper towards children, that is one point, but what if you were to breed the wolfdog with a dog that has a very low temperment? The type I want is just a tiny fraction of wolf blood in a dog, it would still be a wolfdog, but not as violent.

Have you considered going one step further and owning a hyena for a pet??

Its not that wolves have a bad temper toward children, or that they're violent, its that wolves' #1 instinct is huntin', and things kids do trigger the hunt & kill response - not the wolve's fault, not the kids fault; blame ignorant, irresponsible adults who allow development of situations which result in attacks, mostly.

seems like a good way for everyone to get exercise. The kids have to run for their lives and the wolves can practise hunting. Its all so "circle-of-lifey"

Farmerman--

But if your neighbors travel in different cycles?

Now if they were Welsh wolves, the neighbors could keep ahead of the Joneses.

Ok, I'm not a hyena person, they are ugly.

Maybe they are bad parents, or maybe they didn't know about wolfdogs getting wrong impressions.

But can you get a wolfdog with a low temperment?

I want to know every detail to look after these type of animals, what you have to do and what your not aloud to do while around a wolfdog.

hey wolf dog lover. I am in Australia and own a wolfdog. I dont want you to be offended by what i say but i think you need to talk to people who own wolf dogs a little more before you purchase. there are some things you have said that make me think you have no idea really about what it takes. you need to have a good knowledge of these animals because we dont want to have any problems here. But if you are really keen then I suggest you keep up with the research because they are wonderful pets. Also you can NOT import wolf hybrids. They need to be at least 5 generations removed from a wolf. You will have a lot of trouble proving that with a dog that does not have a pedigree. plus you dont want to spend all that time and money and then be told that the animal has been seized and you will be taken to court. They wont tell you this to the animal gets here so dont risk it please. Also I have a wolfdog and it has saved a childs life before, but no dog should ever be left alone with children period. Dont forget we are just animals too who says we deserve this land anymore than wolves do? I think you should do a little more research Dunga on the damage done from lack of wolves. No Im not a greeny just pratical. P.S I have a friend who has a pet puma (they own a zoo) but it lives in there house. Also hello!
