Panzade,

I agree, Eva Cassidy and Early Morning Rain is a beautiful cover.

It's special to me because it was recorded live in DC with the late great Danny Gatton on solo acoustic guitar

Big Head Todd and the Monsters version of Boom Boom. When they were recording it John Lee Hooker happened to be down the hall and joined them to provide guest vocals on a cover of his own song.

I also heard Buddy Guys version of Red House this morning, not sure where to find it but it was an awesome rendition of that song and a great tribute to Jimi Hendrix who was certainly influenced by Buddy Guy.

No, Paul Westerberg was in The Replacements.
The Residents are an avant guarde group who all wear masks and have never reveled their identities
They've been around since the early 70's and they are really hard to listen to for any length of time. Some people think that they are all famous musicians who get together and have created the band as a joke.

There were so many hit songwriters at Motown. Smokey was the first and wrote alot of songs for The Miracles, The Marvelettes, Mary Wells and early Temptations. Holland-Dozier-Holland wrote many of the Supremes hits, Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson wrote most of the Marvin Gaye/Tammy Terrell songs, and Norman Whitfield wrote hit after hit after hit for the Temptations. And then so many of the artists wrote their own material or wrote and performed on songs for each other. It was a pretty phenomenal group of talented young people, headed by Berry Gordy. He ripped them off, that's been duly noted but he produced an incredible legacy of music.

Speaking of Motown and covers, Gladys and the Pips did a riproaring cover of "Grapevine." That was their first big hit, I think.

Every once in a while I learn a factoid that amazes me. Just listened to Gloria's version which is pretty amazing. Sounds like the Supremes on acid.
Thanks for the tip eorl.

I've always had a soft spot for the Flying Lizards cover of that song from the late '70's.
