"Kashmir" is my favorite Led Zeppelin cut. Haven't heard Puffy's sample. I'll have to look for it.

EOE, I never saw "Godzilla" <heard the movie was an absolute dead lizard>, but I caught Puff Daddy on SNL about 6 years ago doing this song with Jimmy Page playing guitar during his performance. I'm not a huge fan of rap, but the performance was sizzling enough that I bought the discounted "Godzilla" soundtrack CD several years later just for that cut <the rest of the CD is passably "so-so">.

My friend gave me a CD called "Lounge Against the Machine" that is really terrific. It has lounge music arrangements of faves such as "Holiday in Cambodia" and "Closer to God". It's funny and good. I put it on during dinner parties.

Richard Cheese is what first came to my mind. He has three cds in total, I'm looking for the third one as it's the one I haven't heard.

How is it that no-one has mentioned Ozzy doing 'Staying Alive'? All aboaaaaaaaaaaaaard the disco train! ha! ha! ha! ha!

I once listened to a bossa nova version of 'Billie Jean', found it hilarious.

As you can see, I like my covers funny.

I only remember a two songs from homage albums I love:

Mercedes Sosa covering Silvio Rodriguez' "La Maza"
and
Adriana Varela covering JoaquĆn Sabina's "Con la frente marchita"

Some punk covers I like are:

Silverchair covers Minor Threat's "Minor Threat"
NOFX covers OMD's "Electricity"
Goldfinger covers Cure's "Just like heaven"

I'll come up with more later.

"Proud Mary"(CCR?)--Ike and Tina Tuner (who actually originally recorded this anyhow)

Pan:

Typing error.

I was asking who wrote "Proud Mary" in the 1st place.

They're both great versions (my college's marching band did a lively rendition of Ike and Tina's version)

Most college marching bands did, Neo. Seems like almost EVERY college marching band back then went 'rolling on the river'. Smile

May I add that this was only about 7-8 years ago. . .

About the time Tina Turner's biopic came out.

Never mind:(

Oh well. Perhaps I'm a little older than you. When Ike & Tina originally recorded it, back in the early 70's I think, it became an immediate favorite of marching bands everywhere. Like Michael Jackson's "Beat It". Every marching band on the planet did that one.

To begin with, I'm 30, but I think the bio of Tina Turner may have been the reason WHY my Alma Mater performed it (of course, the theme and theme song for when they won their 1st National Football Championship--In a PLAYOFF nonetheless was "Simply The Best").

But when I went to my youngest sister's high school band festival, 3/4 of the bands did "Mambo #5".

Ike and Tina sure got the full potential out of that song.

pan:

I heard the CCR version 1st, but think that Ike and Tina's rendition proves that in rare cases an "over the top" rendition need not be annoying, but kinda cool.

Of course, watching them perform it live and Tina and her girls shakin' that thang didn't hurt record sales either.

William. Doc's version is eerie and sad with some great 12 string guitar licks I just HAD to learn.

The Animals version, of course, was also a cover and Alan Price the organist really made it his own. That's why he was able to collect royalties for it which really pissed off the rest of the band.

Indeed, Pan. It was a mix of that song a a couple Leadbelly tunes that inspired me to buy my first 12 string.
