HELP

So I have a really old Ipad that I want to get back onto for old pictures. I got locked out and forgot my password and it wants me to go on my computer and connect to iTunes. So I do that and it wants me to update my ipad but i cant because im locked out. AAAAAnd I never backed up my Ipad . Am I completely stuck and will i have to reset my Ipad and lose everything because If thats the only option I will be really pissed off and lose all my valuable pictures.
