My boss tells me I'm "grinding" down rises in an uneven cement slab tommorrow. Says he renting a special tool for it. Can anyone give me some info about running one of these> Is it like a floor sander? Any ideas?

Well, it looks a lot like a combination of a commercial floor buffer and an electric fan. It is going to have 4 or 5 rotating blades. In operation, i would bet that if you can run a floor polisher, you can handle it. Never having operated one, that's about all I can tell you.

Insist on a respirator/dust mask, especially if this is taking place indoors. The air will be filled with fine silicone dioxide (sand) particles, and they are a major hazard.
