But, on the global warming issue, this administration's links to oil and energy industries has led to the US lagging far behind other advanced nations in confronting and acting on GW. Indeed. Over the last decade, the international scientific community has increasingly raised its voice as research data has been compiled and compared. Increasingly, governments, NGOs, news organizations and independent citizens have been working to push this issue into the spotlight and to push for policies which address it. And, of course, part of this building of awareness has included investigations into the industry funding of disinformation campaigns such as is noted above and the dissemination of what such investigations reveal.

One of the foremost experts on the board on this issue is Farmerman. You will discount him as well because he is a geologist who often works for energy companies.

I would imagine there are few geologists in the US or Canada who haven't worked within or for energy companies, including those who teach fulltime or parttime.

But what is your intended implication and argument here? Because an industry which employs many millions of people also employs someone who has integrity, therefore it follows logically that this industry operates ethically in all respects? If your argument is other, please clarify.

Meteorology Adviser: Joe D'Aleo, PhD, CCM, AMS Fellow - Joseph D'Aleo has over 35 years experience in professional meteorology. He was the first Director of Meteorology and co-founder of the cable TV Weather Channel. Mr. D'Aleo was Chief Meteorologist at Weather Services International Corporation and Senior Editor for WSI's popular Intellicast.com web site. He is a former college professor of Meteorology at Lyndon State College. He is the author of a Resource Guide on El Nino and La Nina. Mr. D'Aleo has frequently written about and made presentations on how research into ENSO and other atmospheric and oceanic phenomena has made skillful seasonal forecasts possible as well as the roles cycles in the sun and oceans have played in climate change. He is currently Executive Director of the International Climate and Environmental Change Assessment Project.

It isn't a matter of 'conservatives' being involved. Many conservatives are now working to forward what you might call blatham's side or argument.

It is a matter of Exxon and other energy companies funding hundreds of front groups with the goal of delaying so long as possible any change in public sentiment and any change in national/international policies which might negatively effect their bottom line. It is one of these front groups to which you've linked.

You need to be clear on two fundamentals, McG.

First, the establishment of front groups which are purposefully designed to appear objective and unconnected to the funding industry/company behind its formation is a marketing/PR technique with a long and rich history (read either of those two books I noted earlier and get yourself educated on this stuff).

Second, in cases such as this (where an industry's products or operations are revealed to be harmful...eg tobacco) the basic PR move is to use those front groups to cast doubt on the science involved. The group to which you linked is following these PR techniques to the letter. They are not objective. They exist for an entirely different purpose and end.

Oh, I see. Exxon = evil corporation which means the facts represented must be skewed. You are suggesting it's just a front group for Exxon despite any evidence of it.

Are all the groups Exxon gives money also merely front groups for the evil corporation?
