Already ... in late October?
I dread to think of what full summer will bring. Neutral
Good luck to those affected in Qld & NSW today. Stay safe.

Firefighters in New South Wales and Queensland are gearing up for another exhausting day battling dozens of blazes.

About 800 firefighters have been working to control fires across New South Wales, with hot and windy conditions fanning 80 blazes.

About 30 of those fires are out of control, including a blaze that has broken a containment line at the township of Balmoral, south-west of Sydney near the Bargo State Forest.

The Rural Fire Service says it could pose a threat to four isolated properties as the area has not been burnt for 30 years.

Fires are also burning near homes at Upper Lansdowne on the mid-north coast near Port Macquarie.

Another blaze at Georges Junction near Armidale also remains a concern.

Yesterday more than 100 homes were issued with emergency alerts, however the threat was downgraded overnight at both fire fronts.

Earlier, New South Wales Rural Fire Service spokeswoman Bridie O'Connor said they are expecting the fire threat to ease today but it is still dangerous.

"We are looking at slightly more favourable conditions however we've still got some very high fire danger," she said.

Meanwhile, soaring temperatures and afternoon storms are expected to exacerbate the fire threat across Queensland today as crews work to contain grass and bushfires. ...<cont>

@hingehead,
Getting a bit desperate, are we?

We've kind of faded away, we Ozzians, haven't we?

@farmerman,
yes...global warming really sucks for us too.

We are expected to get to 50C in the north of this state....not sure if it is today?....for the first time since temperatures in Australia have been recorded.

That's about 122F if my calculations are correct.

It's nice down south where I am though, for now.

@dlowan,
Going around twitter at the moment is the fact that Australia hasn't had a cooler than average month FOR 27 YEARS

@dlowan,
Pretty reliable retweeters with built-in bullshit detectors. David Pope from the Canberra times, Tim Hollo, Greg Jericho, will have a hunt and see if there was a source.

@hingehead,
Your recent post about razor blades put me in mind of a Vic and Bob pronouncement. When you say 'beer can' it sounds like 'bacon' in a Jamaican accent.

Well, I am in sympathy. We have had our share of drought and fires in Texas. The reports from Australia make those fires appear extra monstrous.

You're right - it does! Things are looking up at The Dell - you guys are in with a shot. (Leapfrog the scum and make my day (just joking of course - Newcastle are not an object of my hate at all))

@dlowan,
Did you see the announcement from BoM that they had to find a new colour for the temp forecast charts because they'd never had a 54C before?

@hingehead,
I used to live in the Toon, so I have a soft spot for them. The 'scum,' or 'skates,' are in league 1 so we don't have to bother about them.
