Breaking news:

Rape, murder charges likely in Meagher case:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-09-27/rape2c-murder-charges-likely-in-meagher-case/4284826

Terribly sad to hear, after a huge campaign in Brunswick & the surrounding area to find her during the past 5 days. Rest in Peace, Jillian.

@msolga,
Did you see that Catherine Deveny piece on woman reporting incidents? Very depressing

@dlowan,
I saw a tweet from a woman who said she always wonders about being attacked when she approaches her car at night - and asked how many men felt that way?

No doubt Hawkeye will be here soon telling us why it's women's fault.

@hingehead,
Yes, I read what Catherine Deveny posted on Twitter, hinge.
(Note to self: curtail this habit of walking alone at night - which I do, from time to time - like to the shops in Sydney Road & back, etc.)

It is a very weird feeling when something so tragic happens in one's "home turf".
Not so much fear, more like total incomprehension that something so hideous & shocking could happen in places that you know so well.

I have more to say but will leave it for now. Saturation media coverage here & I need a break from it. Very depressing.
My heart goes out to Jillian Meagher's husband, family & her ABC colleagues & friends.
God knows how those closest to her are coping.

@msolga,
This in this weeks Guardian Weekly seems related -
Who creates harmony the world over? Women. Who signs peace deals? Men
Report calls for more balanced approach to resolving conflict and says female view on freedom from violence is needed

Anyone, wherever you might be - Oz or elsewhere - watching the AFL grand final?

I've caved in ... well, just a little. But only to see what it looks like on my brand new LED tv!

Of course it would be much more exciting if the mighty maggies where playing! Wink

Oh well ....

Go Swans!

They certainly did!

Good game. I enjoyed watching it, on & off yesterday afternoon.

(Buts what's with all the beards? Never seen so many in one AFL game before! Is this some new fashion trend? Wink )

@Dutchy,
The really concerning thing, Dutchy, is that she could have been anyone.
The choice of victim appears to have been completely arbitrary.
Bad luck, bad timing ... and such terribly painful & devastating consequences, which have affected so many people. Most especially, of course, those who knew her & loved her. Sad

Surprised
Wow!
And we just started daylight saving!
Did it get snowed on where you are? (not here in Melbourne. But bloody cold for October!)

... At its height, snowfalls of 15 centimetres and wind damage cut roads and rail access to the upper Blue Mountains for more than six hours.

The Bureau of Meteorology says snow falls have occurred right along the Great Dividing Range and as far north as Queensland's Granite Belt.

The wild weather also affected Sydney's metropolitan area, with Sydney Ferries suspending services between Manly and Circular Quay due to big swells. ...

@msolga,
Plenty of snow in South Australia last Thursday msolga, for the first time in October fo 112 years. Adelaide Hills were covered but the TV pictures from our mid north were unbelievable, reminded me of Sweden where I lived for a while. Needless to say it was cold as well. Luckily we're back to 27 tomorrow.

@Dutchy,
Incredibly, Dutchy, the weather bureau tells us (in Victoria) that it will 27 C degrees on Monday, too!
(I harbour a few doubts about that, going by the past week!)

I am getting tired of bringing my summer-ish clothes out, only to need my winter clothes again, a day or two later!

I guess I'll leave everything out for a while longer, just in case! Smile

@msolga,
My Home-Brew shop stocks a number of items shipped from Cooper's Brewery in South Australia.

It has run out of plastic bottles.

It's amazing that we can't supply our own stuff and it has to be shipped 12,000 miles.
