@hingehead,

Costa Georgiadis is the new Peter Cundall (big shoes)

No one, absolutely no one is capable of filing Peter's huge shoes. (Not even a noisy, super exuberant, gardening Greek! Wink )

Nothing can compare with Peter's sheer delight & wild enthusiasm for animal manure!
Ahhhhh.
The way he crumbled it between his fingers, so lovingly ... Smile
The way he pruned his plants within an inch of their lives Shocked ... & they flourished!

And his commitment to the environment & his political beliefs ...
How many 80+ year olds get themselves arrested in the process of defending their political beliefs?

Good on you, Peter!
Long may your vegie patch flourish!
You've been an inspiration. Smile

@msolga,
did he die or just get tossed in jail??

We used to have a great gardener name of Crockett who was all over our Nat Pub TV . He died and everybody since has been a disappointment

@farmerman,
No, he retired gracefully, farmer.
Figuring it was time to, after years of being the ABC's "gardening guru".
Sort of.
I don't think he ever saw himself in that way. Though he was definitely on a (gardening) mission!
Boy, did he love his horse & cattle manure! Smile

And as for being tossed in jail ... maybe for a bit.
Check out the photograph.
Policeman arrests national treasure. Wink

Yeah. Some of those inspirational old codgers are irreplaceable.
The real deal.

Cundall's biography is amazing - even the wikipedia version makes you want to see the movie:

@hingehead,
It is indeed amazing, hinge.
Not too many ex-gardening show presenters would have a biography quite like that! Smile

It would be difficult - I would have to choose between

Shoes - Cundall, Peter - Huge
and

Cundall, Peter - Shoes - Huge

Haven't eaten or been offered any any yet (touching wood) .....
Early days yet, but if I must indulge, I'd much prefer a positive hot cross bun to the negative variety.

Razz Laughing Hinge, Once a librarian........!

What happened to that Stephen someone who did the show last year - I rather liked him - but he was a bit "low profile", so perhaps the ABC wanted more buzz?

@hingehead,
The far right likes to spread 'political correctness gone mad,' stories like this because they actually
believe them. They like to portray themselves as an embattled group fighting for the same freedoms that
darker skinned people have because it gives them a heroic quality.

In many ways this is the worst sort of distortion of the truth because people like Bootlace lap it up.
During the heady days of Thatcherism the Daily Mail printed a story about how 'loony left,'
councils in London banned the singing of Bah Bah Black Sheep in schools. This was a complete lie,
but it was believed by a lot of people, and not just the far right. It was even accepted by more
traditional northern socialists, because the lie had been told so often.

You reckon it was a complete lie ?

Quote:

The BBC reported in 2000 that Birmingham City Council had banned the song for being racist. It was later
overturned after a backlash from parents.
The council said it had obtained the guidelines, which stated: "The history behind the rhyme is very
negative and also very offensive to black people, due to
the fact that the rhyme originates from slavery".
Six years later in 2006, a nursery in Sutton Courtenay in Britain banned the nursery rhyme.

@izzythepush,
I just had look for sugar spheres on Google. Sigh. Bootlace's informant couldn't even get the fake story right.
It was Seattle last year and it was bullshit then too.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xi9fsg_spring-spheres-easter-eggs-get-politically-correct_news

I think it's particularly hilarious because serious Christians despise the Easter Eggs tradition too.

Well this is not Seattle, and it happened a week ago. This woman is not a liar.
Oh and it wouldn't be on a search engine either. I guess to you, nothing is real
if you can't find it on google. I am surprised you even did a search as you seem to be
an expert on all things including the views of serious christians.
Like I said before, maybe you will grow up one day.

They never do believe you ....
Because their prejudices sound so much better, so much credible (to them) than the truth.
The stories I have heard about the lurks & perks asylum seekers receive!
You wouldn't believe.
Of course, what these folks really want to say but can't (in Oz, anyway) is that they despise Muslims&
feel threatened by them.
Oh yes, & "turn back the boats!", too.
Let those pesky asylum seekers drown in the ocean, anything, rather than allow Muslims &
other suspicious foreign riff-raff find a new home here!

URL: http://able2know.org/topic/43890-168

Of course msolga, I can't take a lot of your writings seriously since I found
you inability to distinguish the difference between race and religion.

The one thing I do despise is any religion that would break Australian law,
any religion that would condone wife beating, female genital mutilation, honour killings,
stonings, beheadings and terrorism etc.
Now msolga, please do not confuse my disdain for these things as being racist.
I abhor racism in any shape or form.

@Bootlace,
still waiting for you to tell me how multiculturalism is ruining your life.

Wow - you found a story, in Birmingham, in 2000. Clap clap clap. What a pity we can't count the stories you didn't find that don't support your thesis.

I think you need to do some growing yourself.

@hingehead,
... which reminds me, Bootlace, ....I'm still trying to figure out how a report calling for cultural tolerance on ANZAC Day (posted by you) led to you criticizing multiculturalism.
