Pencil knowledge

Im trying to draw a pic and the pencil keeps smudging.
The pencil doesnt say what hb it is and its been a while since I had art clesses so I can twork out what type of pencil to use to avoid smudging.

Help please.

HB = Hard Black.
A pencil lead of medium hardness.
Softer leads run B, 2B, 3B, etc. (up to about 9B); harder ones are F (presumably Firm), then H, 2H, 3H, etc. (up to about 10H). Other grading systems have also been used.

The harder the lead, the less smudging. Better yet, stop touching the paper! :wink:

Use a sheet of tracing paper as a protecter between your hand and the drawing. Voila! No more smudging.
