Blue Moon & Total Lunar Eclipse...

We're About to See a Rare Moon That Hasn't Appeared
For More Than 150 Years

This hasn't happened since 31 March 1866

If you were awestruck by the New Year's Day super moon, hold onto your pants.

On January 31, around midnight, the full moon will not only be super, it will be a blue moon
and a blood moon.

The blue moon comes as it will be the second full moon in a month. That happens every
two and a half years, hence the saying "once in a blue moon".

But wait, wait – these two celestial events, the blue moon and the super moon, will also coincide
with a total lunar eclipse.

And with Earth in between the Sun and the Moon, sunlight has to pass through the Earth's
atmosphere, which scatters the green to violet light more than it scatters the red light. So the Moon
appears red – a blood moon.

That's three big Moon moments on one glorious night for skywatchers. The best place to see it,
according to Space.com, will be in central and eastern Asia, Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia.

There is no moon. It's a hologram. It's a fact that the heavens don't exist all. The Earth is flat. We live in a planetarium. Research money. That's all they are in it for.

@edgarblythe,
Ed I'd wondered 'bout that very thing. If nihilism is valid then we can't be here chattin'w/ one another

@Sturgis,
Nice little blues tune, there, eh? Van Ronk stole "House of the Risin Sun" from Leadbelly, then Dylan stole it from him and recorded it.

@layman,
However it was The Animals who brought it to its highest fame in recent times.

The song itself goes way back at least too the 1920s and likely well before then.

Yeah, like I done said, Leadbelly (and before, no doubt, but I think he was the first to record it). And, yeah, you're right about the Animals, too.

@layman,
Others recorded prior, including Clarence "Tom" Ashley and Gwen Foster under the earlier name of Rising Sun Blues in 1933 and Ivy Smith ran worth it in 1927. Somewhere along the line Josh White had also recorded, as did Glenn Yarbrough back in 1957 on his Here We Go Baby album.

@Sturgis,
Quote:
Ted Anthony wrote a definitive book on Rising Sun called Chasing the Rising Sun. In it, his journey in search of the true birth of the song take him to a dozen states and even across the Atlantic ocean...if a fabled Rising Sun ever did exist in New Orleans, currently the most likely location to claim the honor is located on 535-537 Conti St. in the famous French Quarter, where evidence of a hotel named Rising Sun was found. Excavators discovered unusual amounts of makeup containers and liquor bottles, and a newspaper ad stating that the hotel was open to “discerning gentlemen”, which could have possibly alluded to prostitution. Rising Sun is thought to have operated from 1808-1822, when it burned...

Long before the Civil War, let alone sound recordings, eh?

I can see it from the front porch. Looks like a big chunk taken out, but I don't see red just yet.

The super, blue, blood moon is now at total eclipse for the first time since 1866, but I can't see a thing.
