This should teach you about how looks can be deceiving.

Getting back to the very first pages of your thread: There is a really, really good little coffee shop on the Upper East side that I've been wanting to recommend to you. But I've forgotten its name and address. Now I know again: It's called Rohr's, it's on the north side of East 85th street between First and Second Avenue, almost on the corner to second. Their coffee is so good even this atheist cannot describe it with any word other than 'divine'.

On yet another different note, I'll be at the Toronto airport today between 6 and 8 pm, changing planes. Can you recommend anything to do or see there?

Finally, to everyone I've seen in New York and San Francisco over the last two weeks: Thanks for a truly wonderful time I had here. You're the best!

Pearson is so far from the city, that two hours is not sufficient time to go anywhere. I'd say find a cafe you like and settle in.

Thanks, Setanta!

I guess what I meant to ask was, is there any particular cafe in the Toronto airport that's worth sitting in? Or is it all franchise land?

Well...now that you are gone, Thomas...I gotta tell you about the incredible sense of loss I feel.

Truly!

Not that I miss you...although I certainly enjoyed our personal interaction.

The sense of loss doesn't have to do with that.

But I know that I now like you so much....I will never be able to bust your balls with quite the same vigor.

Damn.

I wish you had been a schlump. Twisted Evil

Thomas!

Ya coulda told me earlier - I woulda come out to the airport to have a coffee with you.

Depending on which terminal you're in, the food/beverage options vary considerably.

<off to website>

link

best option in Terminal 1 -
Quote:
Kensington Market: Zyng Noodles, Mediterranean Grill, Giovanna Pizza, and Starbucks.

Level 2, Domestic, Post Security, Hammerhead E

This market represents the rich multicultural mix of Toronto's Kensington Market with tastes from Europe, the Caribbean, the Middle East, South America, and Asia.

Terminal 2 - sort of a toss-up - nothing too exciting/nothing too disgusting

Terminal 3 -
Quote:
Yorkville Food Court - includes: Webers, Mrs. Vanellis, and Williams Coffee Pub

Departures Level, Public Concourse, Retail Mall, Food Court
Weber's is a real Ontario tradition.

The best coffee at the airport? - Second Cup.

Leaving the city this morning had its charm--the thermometer read 92F and the humidity was rising.

Lola is a wonderful hostess--great taste, great charm and great contageous enthusiasm.

HoFt is a Woman of Mystery who has completely mastered the old fashioned art of Smouldering Beauty.

Swimpy--

I'll miss you in October, but there are moments of a Mother's Life that must be treasured. Celebrating that graduation is your bounden duty.

Thomas--

A man of curiosity, patience and considerable wit in a second language.

Frank--

Man in motion. I don't think he'd con babes in arms or little old ladies, but he'd have no problem fattening his wallet by fleecing Real He Men.

Kicky--

Remember, seven days, seven weeks, seven months. Seven years is most unlikely.

Phoenix--

A most engaging woman (with detachable umbrella) with enormous enthusiasm.

ehBeth--

I'm hoping to return to the city in late October. Do you do anything besides walk at full speed?

Osso--

Highlight of the Metropolitan was the Matisse. I'm still sorting out the implications of the way his background invade his subject matter.

The rooftop sculpture was pleasant in a trivial way, but the NYC skyline was worth the trip. A number of very provident sparrows were making round trips between their Central Park nesting ground and the Museum snack bar.

Lunch? A little melon and a little excellent ham on a bed of exotic greenery with vinegar and just a smidgeon of oil. I felt terribly sophisticated.

The cameo collection featured a number of portraits of Roman and Renaissance men.

Dominion has been enlarged.

Noddy, I am capable of so much more than fast walking. Strolling, sitting, observing, visiting, being entertained - it can all happen.

Next time try Blue Smoke....yum

This is a public apology to all for missing Monday night.
I think my brain is being dissolved by the testosterone levels at the gym.
I've locked myself out (twice) this week and I never said,
though he would never mention it,
Happy Birthday to Frank.

I thought about it, even asked Lola (or Blatham?) if it made sense. In the end, it's a good thing I didn't, because my flight from New York ended up departing an hour late. I was lucky to catch my plane to Munich -- my luggage didn't, and is still in luggage limbo as I write. (Plus, nobody had told me that Toronto Airport is currently a pile of rubble with a few terminals on the side. At least that was my impression from moving between terminals on opposite ends of the pile.)

You're definitely on my short list of A2K people to meet up with, and I'll aim for a stay in Toronto on my next trip to America. Promise!

Noddy's description is spot on about the nuances. For all three of us -- Noddy, Phoenix, and myself -- servings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art were small, plates large, prices reflecting the size of the plate, not, the serving. As Noddy said -- terribly sophisticated.

Bernie's ok, but he had a heart attack last night (or this morning). Here's the link to the thread I set up with more details.

Will follow Lola's link in a moment. Doing an assignment for Aa at the moment.

Thomas - don't be so bashful next time - you'll feel better once your clothes catch up with you.

They haven't yet, but my rant made me feel better already -- sorry for being cranky and annoying. And many thanks for your recommendations; I'll be happy to try them out next time.
