While my dad was in the Navy he was stationed on Guam for an extended period of time... he loved it there. Great weather, great golf, great people, great scenery.

Freeduck,

If you have about 4 weeks of vacation saved up I can get you the best tour of Greece ever. I saw/learned so much in 4 weeks and had the best time ever. Plus it ended wth a week cruise where we got to go to Egypt, Turkey and Ephesus.

Holy cripes! That sounds great. Unfortunately, I won't have a full 4 weeks until I've been at my job for two years, which is about 18 months from now. I'll keep that in mind though.

That's cool... it runs every summer. I was there in August during a heat wave. The day we were in Mycenae it was 126 degrees... a new record. But I really didn't mind a bit. It was amazing.

I did most of my traveling when I was very young and
not married then. I hate to say it: but one has much more
fun traveling with friends than with a spouse (or at least
I had the wrong guy).

Living in Europe then did help too.

Yet, there are sooo many places I'd like to visit in the
United States alone......

When you're young you have all the time but very little money, and now, it's the opposite - I just have very litte
time <sigh>

I think that is definitely true. I would include significant other, as well. There's just less of a sense of responsibility, for some reason.

So far Alaska, Greece, and Australia/New Zealand are topping the To Do lists.

What didn't you like about Paris, Tico? There was so much stuff to see there I couldn't fit it all in one trip. I'd love to go back someday.

Primarily, the people. Secondly, trying to get around. Thirdly, the food.

You are correct that there is a lot to see and do there. For example, you could spend weeks wandering around the Louvre, and not see everything. I remember searching all over for Les Catacombs.

Ha... we scheduled off half of a day to go exploring the Louvre knowing that we would only be able to see a small fraction of what was there. We got lost trying to find an exit and ended up down by the Catacombs... it was nice and cool down there on a hot summer day.

I remember hearing somewhere that if you were at the Louvre everyday from open to close, and spent 30 seconds looking at each piece, it would take you something like 3 months to see everything... I'll go look for the actual statistics.
