Bluetooth: less power consumption with up to date USB dongle?

My iMac only has Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR and I wanted to know if I could use a Bluetooth v4.0 USB dongle to allow newer devices (battery powered keyboard) to connect more efficiently to it and use less battery power?
