After a rainstorm in Teotihuacán, northeast of Mexico City last May, a sinkhole developed, leading to the discovery of a tunnel running more than 30 feet underground, and leading from the Temple of the Moon to the Temple of the Sun. I'll let Smithsonian-dot-com tell you all about it:
A Secret Tunnel Found in Mexico May Finally Solve the Mysteries of Teotihuacán
Fascinatin' stuff, sports fans.
@Setanta,
Cool. Lots of loot to study. It would be nice if they could crack the language.
That's a problem in that the folks at Teotihuacan were not speakers of Nahuatl, the language of their successors. The Nahua peoples treated the city as a sacred place, and I don't believe anyone knows if it were occupied when the Nahua arrived. The Azteca, the Cholulans, the Texcocans, the Tlaxcalans, etc., were all Nahua peoples.
@Setanta,
Interesting, thanks for posting this. I've been there a couple of times, long ago. Now to read the article..
