DO YOU BELIEVE IN FATE-DESTINY. THAT EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON? THAT IF YOU ARE FIVE MINUTES LATE FOR WORK ONE DAY AND SOMEONE ON THE WAY TO YOUR JOB GETS KILLED AND THAT COULD HAVE BEEN YOU BUT IT WASN'T BECAUSE YOU WERE LATE TYPE OF THING?
Fate? No!
Destiny? No!
(within the context you've outlined)
i fully believe in fate but think we each make our own destiny.
many a time something's happened to me which is fate driven.
That everything happens for a reason? Yes.
Things happen because of their causes.
Why? Because
Could have been me that got killed? No.
I couldn't have been killed. Because I wasn't killed. If I could have been killed there would have been a reason, and I would have been killed for that reason. Why couldn't I have been killed? Because there was no cause.
This is predestination and it is a fact. So fate? Yes. But this is probably not what you were thinking. But I don't want to derail your thread into a predestination battle, so I digress now.
Predestination! Now there's an interesting subject.
Why don't you start a new topic on this binny?
I've been putting all my predestination stuff in the "free will" thread.
but if you think I should start a new one I will.
Then you will die when you want>?
sorry i misread what u said
if you wanna get picky then effectively i can die when i want cause i can commit suicide but i obviously i cant go i would like to die in 12 years time
if u see what i mean
but then again no being or thing or anything else can either so thats why i dont believe in it i spose

But what if you died before you wanted, then you wouldn't be in control!!!!
if i died before i wanted it doesnt mean that its fate or destiny it's just luck of the draw really no one knows when they are gonna just take it as
it happens
(sorry for the l8 reply forgot about this little debate)

Ok... you can die when you want... but you could also die before you wanted to and this is because you can take your own life or it can be taken before you want because of just about anything.

No. I believe those are examples of superstitious thinking in which a majority of the world takes comfort. In my opinion, they are a way to explain the inexplicable for those who cannot tolerate ambiguity and taking responsibility.
To say that everything that has happened, was going happen, is redundant. Even if everything is laid out ahead of time, you still can choose your paths to an extent. The consequences of each choice are what you cannont control...and natural death. If this doesn't make sense, someone say something.
here i'll put it the way i think
i am about to proove to u i have free will (read on)
*max209 waves arm around in air*
i just did that because i wanted to
now if u can prove otherwise i await ure reply
I can't prove jack, but neither can anybody.
you waved your arms because you wanted to.
What made you want to?...
Something made you want to, right?
Whatever that something is (or those somethings) is to blame for your arm waving. You had a thought and you wanted to. Ok... that's a simple notion, right?... Well, what made you have that thought? Something, right? But something else caused that something, right?
So if you want to take the LONG path, I'll answer your demand for proof with a question that will lead to other questions that will end with frustration or with you ignoring me, but here goes anyway:
So you wanted to. Why did you want to? What CAUSED you to want to?
I believe that there will be a future, but at the moment I do not believe in pre-destiny, and I do think I should not believe in it.
Determinism might have some sort of 'destiny'-like agenda, but it's very different than destiny itself. It's just cause and effect mechanism.
i made me want to lift my arm up
the ONLY thing that made me want to lift my arm up was me
