Which is correct:

The cleanup and haul off of the roof debris were completed.
or
The clean up and haul off of the roof debris were completed.

Well - this is going to confuse you, but it would be " was" completed because clean-up and disposal of debris would be considered as one job.

though you could make it a compound adjectival modifier, using hyphen: 'clean-up,' but I'll bet we'll get some static
