Red hair too bright after dyeing

Hello!

I have an engagement photo shoot on Sunday and I usually colour my hair red from a box. When I first do it, it starts out very red and dark, then over time it fades to a pleasant sort of coppery colour.

Because I have this photo shoot coming up, I wanted to colour my hair to get rid of my roots, but I didn't want it so dark and red. I tried a different colour, which I tried to match to the coppery colour that I actually like my hair to be, but it came out too brown.

Now I am wondering what to do to fix this problem. I don't want it to be so bright/dark as when I use my normal colour, but I also don't want it to be the brown colour that I have going on right now.

My current plan is to try using my regular colour, but maybe not leave it in for the full 25 minutes so it isn't quite so dark. Any suggestions?
