Gee, Tickie, your response was archetypical!

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar... other times, not so much.
Keep on sublimating... Carry On!

Gosh, Magoo, that was exactly the kind of a response I thought you would make, if you made one: An initial snide remark ... followed by an odd observation ... concluded with a pointless finale.

Thanks for your contribution. Rolling Eyes

Tickie must be commended for the adroit way he managed to exploit the Tragedy to denigrate the French.
...not that Lush Blimpo hadn't already beaten tickie to the post.

Tickie, who is it that issues the daily neo-con Topic List? (BTW... their clever new word- "Koranimals"- does a masterful job of objectifying the "enemy"... )

Magus--

Who are these people you are referring to? I am assuming "Tickie" is your way of trying to annoy Ticomaya. I imagine it would have worked, when he was...about 6 years old. I guess when you can't win an argument, calling someone a name would be an option....for a 6 year old.

What I am curious about is--who are you referring to when you use the term "Lush Blimpo"? I am around here pretty frequently--and I don't know anyone with such a moniker. Perhaps you'll be good enough to introduce me? Just a line, telling me who Lush Blimpo is. That's all I need.

Thank you.

I have no problem with French ticklers. My guess, 'Lush Blimpo' is a moniker for 'Rush Limbaugh.' Keep the peace...Wink

Yes.

Is it making anyone else sick that, on some threads, the usual political crap re "France sucks" "Bush sucks" is going on re amounts of aid????

YES!

Absolutely pathetic & very disappointing. <sigh>

Good grief! Nobody told me there was a "France sucks"/"Bush sucks" championship brewing!!!

Thankfully, I can lodge my contribution:

FRANCE SUCKS!!!!

<sighs from exertion>

It seems to me that this terrible catastrophe is simply being used here for pathetic political point-scoring. And yes, I find it offensive & sick-making. Sorry about that. This is not about France vs the US, it's about ... oh never mind! ... Rolling Eyes

I didn't think France sucking had anything to do with a catastrophe.

I mean, they've been sucking for decades.

Don't get overwrought. I don't think anyone here seriously thinks the France/Bush sucking championship is an overriding issue related to the disaster.

I'd say the humor in the sucking contest is a much-needed distraction from the overwhelming sorrow. I think this is the worst single day disaster in most of our lifetimesÂ… and France really does suck. The stingy accusations seem to be having the effect of starting a bidding war for aidÂ… Good.

No, the disaster was just an excuse for a bit of entertainment, a bit of political point scoring, ....
Some of you would have been outraged if, immediately following the events of September 11 (which, on the scale of disasters was small fry compared to this one), A2Kers (or Abuzzers, then) took a similar opportunity for a bit entertainment, some bickering & humor as "a much-needed distraction from the overwhelming sorrow". It wouldn't have been acceptable. I can't see why this event should be any different.

No one has come close to making light of what happened.

Some UN asshole started criticising countries for not giving enough before anyone had a decent chance to react. What has followed has been a parody of the ridiculous penny-counting insanity that has erupted since that statement.

Your self-righteous lecturing can be saved for better use. ...just an excuse for entertainment... Yeah. We're all yukking it up over disaster victims. What a ridiculous statement. The disaster and the politics of donations are two completely different things. As you well know.

No one said you were "yukking it up over disaster victims". What I said was that the disaster & the funding of it were used here for some silly political point scoring.

My office remained open on 9-11 and we did business as usual. I did what I could, to keep the mood positive in the days that followed. I cracked jokes after my mom's funeral as is the norm in my family... and provided a giant cooler full of beer at the service itself. I fully expect to deal with another terrorist attack in the near future, perhaps even nuclear. I for one would be lost without humor. I mean no disrespect to you or anyone else Ms Olga. I suspect we just have a different process. If slams on France in the face of this disaster bother you so much, the title of this thread should have warned you away.

... the thread seemed to be just a continuation of the debate regarding entrenched positions on the Iraq invasion & very little to do with concern for the victims of this massive disaster, that's all.
