Well Joe, you got a growing market in that career there.
(I studied economics, "the career of the future" as they said. They didn't say any economist is hired to fix the blunders of the previous economist, who was hired to fix the blunders of the previous economist, who has hired... ad infinitum.

As for stadium vecinity, I remember giving a night class at CU, Monetary Theory, and there was an important game going on at the stadium. Every time we heard a loud "GOOOOOOOOOOL!", the Pumas had scored. And when we heard a short, sighful, yell of "goooool", the rival had scored.

This piece of news may interest some US soccer fans:

D.C. United Smashed Out Of Champions' Cup Semis

Pumas 5, United 0

The Washington Post, Thursday, April 14, 2005; Page D06

D.C. United continued to have problems at the start of each half, yielding goals in the 11th minute and then three minutes after halftime during a 5-0 loss to Pumas last night in the deciding game of the Champions' Cup semifinals in Mexico City.

Bruno Marioni gave Pumas the lead with a short header off Diego Alonso's cross -- the only goal Pumas ended up needing to win the two-game, total-goals series following a 1-1 tie at RFK Stadium last week.

Pumas will face Mexican rival Monterrey or Costa Rican club Saprissa in next month's finals, with the winner advancing to the world championships in Japan late this year.

United nearly tied it four minutes after Marioni's goal, but Alecko Eskandarian's shot hit the right post.

Pumas dominated the second half, stretching its lead shortly after intermission and then turning it into a rout following United defender Mike Petke's ejection.

Botero scored his first goal on a breakaway in the 48th minute. Petke then left his team short-handed after receiving his second yellow card in the 69th minute. Four minutes later, Botero struck again on another breakaway.

Substitute David Toledo and Jaime Lozano finished the scoring with goals in the final five minutes.

Petke's ejection left United without its three most experienced defenders. Bryan Namoff has been sidelined for several weeks with a back strain and Brandon Prideaux, who had just recovered from the flu, was a late scratch because of a pulled hamstring.

Rookie midfielder Nick Van Sicklen started in place of Englishman Steve Guppy on the left flank. Teenager Freddy Adu replaced Van Sicklen in the 58th minute, but United couldn't generate much of an attack.

Clyde Simms and Jamil Walker also made second-half appearances for United (1-0-1 in MLS), which will resume regular season play tomorrow night at Columbus (1-1).

I was rooting for Pumas. Vergara might be head chief and all, but I'm not to fond of him.

It was a disastrous tourney for Pumas, better luck next time.

Let me tell what you are fbaezer......
You are just a socialist. A guy who thinks the National University is "free" when it is not. A guy who thinks the National University still is the best university in Mexico and it is not, nobody wants students from there. National University students are lazy, trouble makers and do not work unless a Union or some crappy contract protect them to work extra hours or something it is not defined in your contracts, simple, always looking how to screw other people.

You are proud of a team that is not even representing the National University, is just a borrowed name from a private investors getting money out of fools like you and do not provide anything to the students or faculties. Pumas UNAM soccer team is a professional team which rents the Olympic stadium, has their office out of the university, players are not even students, most of them barely finish high school and all of them are just a bunch of mercenaries looking to expose themselves then move on to other team with better pay, so do not come here and try to show other image of a bunch of players without no heart.

You talked about the American Football team, saying that the ONEFA league is bored because is full of ITESM teams, well nobody else is doing better than them, so what do you expect?, have a bunch of losers from the National University playing finals?, are you nuts?, you should understand that before ITESM and UANL were back to the football league, most of the players in teams like Condores or Aguilas Reales, were from other teams and universities, the only team with a bunch of losers from UNAM high schools was Guerreros Aztecas and was the worst team, now that all players go the ITESM to play, the only bunch of losers are in Pumas CU, because they do not have anything to offer to the players, the medical facilities for the American football are the same since 1980, please do you expect a good player to be there playing for a bunch of losers Union workers lazy and cheaters??, NO, do no be so proud of a University that has been going down since the 80's so, do not believe to this guy, he is just fooling you with all that crap.

He is just a fool Marxist showing his RED color thought in UNAM classrooms, go and march in the streets of Mexico City and screw the whole traffic and life, just because you want to get money doing nothing, just to have your tamales and Atole at the morning and spend 2 hours having lunch with Enchiladas and Sopes, then relax for another 2 hours napping or thinking when will be the day you get married to Jessica Simpson then go back to your office and just browse porn then leave, and don't ask him to stay late because his Union or attorney will see how to get more money for the pretty lazy bastard, that's the mentality in the UNAM, the national university which is free for lazy sons of a bitches while other like me pay taxes to maintain alive the dream of these fools, because asking them to pay 60 cents per semester, they decide to strike instead pay those cents to improve the restrooms in those holes so called faculties, they want everything free, bunch of lazy losers.

A recent research by The Financial Times about the top 200 universities in the world classifies UNAM at number 95. That's slightly above Georgetown and the University of Paris.
Not only the best in Mexico, madmax. The best in Latin America (the University of Sao Paolo barely makes it among the top 200) and the best in the Spanish speaking world (the University of Madrid is well below).

I imagine the Financial Times is also showing its "RED" color. Damn City of London commies.

But doncha worry, pal. ITESM is probably among the top 100 in the list of Most Expensive Universities.

Now about the original topic.

Pumas sucked big time on this year's league.

But we are on the quarterfinals in the South American Cup.
I got tickets for tomorrow, the return game against none other than Corinthians, Craven's favorite team.

This is a message to Craven de Kere:

Timâo vai perder!

First of all, the good news:

As CDK knows already Twisted Evil :

Pumas 3, Corinthians 0
Timâo eliminado da Copa Sulamericana!

About Hugo:

It was a nice cycle, but clearly over.
I still abide by the 7th Commandment of Pumas followers: "Thou Shalt not Fall into any Lavolpista Temptation", but certainly Hugo's tactics were not working recently.
What stroke me the most was his inability to control The Fight of the Egos: himself against Marioni, and keep the group together.
I guess most Pumas followers have mixed feelings. Yesterday, at the stadium, there was this "Pitch Fever Boston Fans" atmosphere; yet no one made a single comment about Hugo.
I dunno which team you root for, El Pohl, but I can tell this to Joe: Hugo may very well be the next Chivas coach.

Im all in for Chivas, to the core! However, I'm reaaaaally doubtfull about having Hugo in our bench. Plus, he and Mr. V would hold very strong grudges.

He was offered Chivas USA, of course, he refused it. Do you still think he might end up with the rojiblanca?

I also think Joe wouldnt be glad Razz

V. and Hugo have the same "conceited winner" attitude. They like and understand each other, so it's possible... but their big egos are, sooner or later, bound to clash.

I don't think Hugo will accept coaching for a non-big team. So his chances right now are either Chivas or Europe.

I understand a Chivas fan not wanting Hugo (I mean, he was never identified with the team, humilliated them twice)... but I imagine anything should be better than Azcargota.

I don't like the idea of Hugo as a rojiblanco, Hugo gives me 'un mal sabor en la boca'. I admire him for all that he has accomplished as a player and a coach.

Of course I haven't had the time or the resources to follow the Torneo de Apertura but I don't think Hugo is the coach the chivas need.
