Here's a challenge:

Just got a fascinating bit of news that covers a whole bunch of eras...

http://channels.netscape.com/ns/news/package.jsp?&name=news/time/anniversary

I will wager that I can sing a song that reflects every era...

Gimme your money..... Laughing

and do not...do NOT look it up, or you'll be cheatin'

Any takers?

Embarrassed

ehBeth's is:

Five feet two eyes of blue and oh what those five feet can do,
Has anybody seen my gal.

Turned up nose,
Rolled down hose,
Flapper, yessir, one of those.
Has anybody seen my gal.

Now if you run in to a five foot two
Covered in furs.
Diamond rings, and all those things.
You bet your life is isn't her.

Could she love, could she woo
Could she hoochie..coochie ..coo

Has Anybody seen my gal.

Hey, Joanne.

Many good tunes came from the 40's. Perhaps you'll remember this one:

It's not the pale moon that excites me that thrills and delights me, oh,no,
It's just the nearness of you.
It isn't your sweet conversation that brings this sensation, oh, no,
It's just the nearness of you

When you in my arms, and I feel you so close to me,
All my wildest dreams come true.

I need no soft lights to enchant me, if you'll only grant me the right
To hold you ever so tight,
And to feel in the night,
The nearness of you.

Thanks letty, very meaningful to me. Your are good at this. I have trouble with music I generally remember either the lyric and not the name of the song or the performer or any combingation but always missing one or the other.

Mid 1950s

How much is that doggie in the window,
the one with the waggily tail,
How much is that doggie in the window,
I do hope that doggie's for sale.

Can't remember the rest of it! Sad

Well, Joanne. It doesn't hurt to have incorporated music into my lesson plans in Humanities, and to have sung as an avocation for many years.

Uhoh, Phoenix.

I barely remember Patti Page. Laughing

I do remember this much of D.in the W.

I must take a trip to California
And leave my poor doggie alone.
If.(duh..duh..duh, etc)
And the doggie will have a good home.

My Gorsh, What did she want two dogs to leave alone for anyway?

I was waltzin' with my darlin' to the Tennessee waltz,
When an old friend I happened to see.
I introduced her to my darlin'
And while they were dancin'
My friend stole my lover from me.
I remember the night and the Tennessee waltz,
Now I know just how much I have lost.
For I lost my little darlin',
The night they were playin'
The beautiful Tennessee waltz

Oh Letty! This is great!
another one who will love this is hamburger (my dad). He's been thrilled with some of the online radio stations he found - one in particular plays Rat Pack 'classics'.

how about something from Kiss Me Kate?

letty: a slightly different tennessee waltz
The Brand New Tennessee Waltz

By Jesse Winchester
Oh my but you have a pretty face
You favour a girl that I knew
I imagine that she's still in Tennessee
And by God I should be there too
I've a sadness too sad to be true
But I left Tennessee in a hurry dear
The same way that Im leaving you
Because love is mainly just memories
And everyone's got him a few
So when I'm gone I'll be glad to love you
At the brand new Tennessee waltz
You're literally waltzing on air
At the brand new Tennessee waltz
There's no telling who will be there
When I leave it'll be like I found you love
Descending Victorian stairs
I'm feeling like one of your photographs
Trapped while I'm putting on airs
And getting even by asking who cares
So have all of your passionate violins
Play a song for a Tennessee kid
Who's feeling like leaving another town
With no place to go if he did
'Cause they'll catch you wherever you're hid

dyslexia - i heard jesse winchester perform that about a decade ago - it was an extraordinary evening.

letty - we'll have to hook you up with Brush up your Shakespeare - it's your kind of song! and i'll try to point hamburger this way (he's mentioned his love of chicago elsewhere on A2K).

ferrous,

Did you look up those words? Very Happy

No wonder having two doggies didn't make sense to me!

Thanks.
