Hi everyone,
I have a 27 year old home & I want to upgarde the thermostat to a new programable 1. I bought a ritetemp 8022, read the instruction, & when I started disassembling the old thermostat, I found that there were only 2 wires coming out of the wall 1 black & the other white with no labeling. The old thermsat itself (Airtemp honeywell) has no markings on it to suggest what the wires are RH, R, C...etc. I tried to follow the wires down to the furnace room & I Think the white wire is connected to the shut gas valve thermocoupler thingy (I dont know exactly what its called) on a part labelled TH. I did my best to research it on the net but I cant find anything. Does anyone know what these 2 wires are?
Thank you

i'm not sure, but this might help --
Thermostat Wiring Trouble Shooting
does your home have a forced heat only system? Or is your heating and A/C on two different thermostats? What controls did you have on the old stat? Was there a switch for heat/cool/fan?
a typical thermostat used for a central A/C and forced heating system would have at a minimum of 4 wires R-witch is basically the power W- is the control for heat Y- the control for the cooling, and G- witch would be for fan only.
You would have to describe your HVAC system a little better for a better understanding of what you found.
