I could have sworn I posted earlier. Anyway this is what I meant to say:

I'm glad you liked "My Little Buckaroo", Diane. I like it too.

Letty: My mother sang : Remember Buffalo Bill was once a kid like you, too.

and
I'd like to wish Glenn Yarborough (1930 - American singer and songwriter ) Happy Birthday. He has the sweetest voice.

http://www.gocontinental.com/photos/yarbrough_g2a.jpg

Some men climb a mountain
Some men swim the sea
Some men fly above the sky
They are what they must be

But, baby, the rain must fall
Baby, the wind must blow
Wherever my heart leads me
Baby, I must go
Baby, I must go

I do not love for silver
I do not love for gold
My heart is mine to give away
It never will be sold

So, baby, the rain must fall
Baby, the wind must blow
Wherever my heart leads me
Baby, I must go
Baby, I must go

I am not rich or famous
But who can ever tell
I don't know now what waits for me
Maybe heaven, maybe hell

Baby, the rain must fall
Baby, the wind must blow
Wherever my heart leads me
Baby, I must go
Baby, I must go

You know, hamburger. One of the most difficult things to write, for me anyway, would be a short story. One must really know how to bring everything together neatly and dramatically for that genre to be successful.

Where is our Mr. Turtle? I always love to hear him play our telling songs.

Oh, komm doch, komm zu mir
Du nimmst mir den verstand
Oh, komm doch, komm zu mir
Komm, gib mir deine hand
Komm, gib mir deine hand
Komm, gib mir deine hand

Oh, du bist so schon
Schon wie ein diamant
Ich will mit dir gehen
Komm, gib mir deine hand
Komm, gib mir deine hand
Komm, gib mir deine hand

In deinen armen bin ich glucklich und froh
Das war noch nie bei einer anderen
Einmal so

Du nimmst mir den verstand
Oh, komm doch, komm zu mir

Well, Raggedy. You did, honey, and I recognized you for the Buckaroo song, but if there were a picture, Letty Lettucehead missed it.

Hmmm. Glenn Yarbrough? don't know him, PA, but I do recall that song(I think)

It might have been blown away during maintenance. <smile>

Here's another rain song, folks, and this is for Roger:

Have You Ever Seen The Rain - Song Lyrics
Written and originally performed by Creedence Clearwater Revival
The song reached # 8 on the Top 40 charts in 1971
Remade in 1990 By Joan Jett, but her version did not reach the Top 40 charts

Someone told me long ago,
There's a calm before the storm,
I know, and it's been comin' for some time.

When it's over so they say,
It'll rain a sunny day,
I know, shinin' down like water.

I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain
I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin' down on a sunny day?

Yesterday and days before,
Sun is cold and rain is hot,
I know, been that way for all my time.

'Til forever on it goes,
Through the circle fast and slow,
I know, and it can't stop I wonder.

I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain
I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin' down on a sunny day?

Yeah!

I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain
I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin' down on a sunny day?

Yeah!

Mr. Turtle. Hoorah! I didn't realize that tortoises spoke German.

That's a really great song that I am certain Walter will appreciate, but I think he has a job now as footwarmer. <smile>

The Beatles recorded quite a few of their early hits in German, as they had strong links to Hamburg. I was in the Star Club in the 60s, but the Fab Four had left by then.

Manfred Mann (another German-linked band) had a hit in the UK with "Mighty Quinn".

Thanks, Taggers, for that bit of background. I remember a movie starring Denzel Washington called The Mighty Quinn, but not the band. I'll check out that song, Brit, and be back later to play it for our listeners.

McTag, I was surprised to find out that Bob Dylan also had a recording of this song:

Manfred Mann
» Mighty Quinn

Ev'ryhody's building the big ships and the boats
Some are building monuments other jotting down notes
Ev'rybody's in despair
ev'ry girl and boy
But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here
Ev'rybody's gonna jump for joy
Come all without
come all within
You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn
Come all without
come all within
You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn
I like to do just like the rest I like my sugar sweet
But guarding fumes and making hast it ain't my cup of meat
Ev'rybody's 'neath the trees teeding pigeons on a limb
But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here
AII the pigeons gonna run to him
Come all without
come all within
. . .
Cats meow and a cow moo I can recite 'em all
Just tell me where it hurts and I'll tell you who to call
Nobody can get no sleep there's someone on ev'ryones toes
But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here
Ev'rybody's .gonna wanna doze
Come all without
come all within

Well, my, my, listeners. That is about as clear as Yit's German song. <smile>

All that and poi, too. Love it, Mahea.

You know folks, I used to play a tenor ukulele. Plastic strings, ya know, and only four. I got really mean and down on that thing.<smile>

For them men in the pitcher:

Like the gentle winds that blow there - is my love for you.
Hand in hand we strolled the sands - my love's still true.
Hanalei bay is calling - me back to you.
Beams of love are under - Hanalei Moon.

Hanalei Moon - I'll come back to you.
Hanalei Moon - You'll be there too.
Gentle winds are calling - me back to you.
Beams of love are under - Hanalei Moon.

On the isle they call Kauai - a flower for your hair.
Gentle winds and mem' ries - waiting for me there.

Beams of love are under - Hanalei Mooon.

Hey, listeners. That just reminded me of a Leon Russel song.

How about a radio luau, folks:

http://www.printsellers.com/hawaiiana/san-pedro/Tiki-Torches-by-Sunset-sml.jpg

Back To The Island - Leon Russell

Now the day is gone and I sit alone and think of you, girl
What can I do without you in my life?
I guess that our guessing game just had to end that way
The hardest one to lose of all the games we played

But the time is past for living in a dream world
Lying to myself can't make that scene
Of wondering if you love me or just making a fool of me
Well I hope you understand I just had to go back to the island

And watch the sun go down (sit and watch the sun go down)
Hear the sea roll in (listen to the sea roll in)
But I'll be thinking of you (yes, and I'll be thinking of you)
And how it might have been (thinking how it might have been)
Hear the night birds cry (listen to the night birds cry)
Watch the sunset die (sit and watch the sunset die)
Well I hope you understand I just had to go back to the island

Well all the fun has died, It's raining in my heart
I know down in my soul I'm really gonna miss you
But it had to end this way with all the games we played
Well I hope you understand I just had to go back to the island

And watch the sun go down (sit and watch the sun go down)
..........Repeat Chorus

Nothing wrong with "elua" islands, Mahealani: Razz

And another, folks:

Hawaii Wedding Song

This is the moment
I've waited for
I can hear my heart singing
Soon bells will be ringing
This is the moment
Of sweet Aloha
I will love you longer than forever
Promise me that you will leave me never
Here and now dear,
All my love,
I vow dear
Promise me that you will leave me never
I will love you longer than forever
U-a, si-la
Pa-a ia me o-e
Ko a-lo-ha ma-ka-mea e i-po
Ka-'u ia e le-i a-e ne-i la
Now that we are one
Clouds won't hide the sun
Blue skies of Hawaii smile
On this, our wedding day
I do love you with all my heart

The original Hawaiian lyrics are far more poetic and sensuous. Titled "Ke Kali Nei Au (Waiting For Thee)" , the words and music were written by Charles King in 1926. According to legend, he wrote the lyrics as part of his operetta, Prince of Hawaii, while convalescing in a hospital.

Here I am waiting
Where is my beloved

I've searched for you
Now that I've found you
Calm the desire of my heart

Sealed forever to you
Sweetheart you are so precious
I pledge my love to you alone

I desire you (desire)
True to you alone (alone)
With you joy will ever be mine

You're mine (you're mine)
Oh, my lei (Oh, lei)
You`re mine, my lei

Fond remembrance of the one who came
My fragrant lei
Drenched in the rain

Listen you, my heart's desire
To the thought within me
Open the heaven within my body

My flower, my fragrant lei
I will string and bind
Like the fragrant jasmine flower

You are my blossom (you, my blossom)
My lei of lehua (lehua)

My desire is always to be with and close
To my love

My lei (my lei)
You're mine
My lei, you're mine

Shoots, let's go with the song every local in Hawai'i knows...Aloha O'e:

Ha`aheo `e ka ua I nà pàli
Ke nihi a`ele i ka nahele
E uhai ana paha i ka liko
Pua `àhihi lehua o uka.

hui:
Aloha `oe, aloha `oe
E ke onaona noho i ka lipo.
"One fond embrace," a ho`i a`e au
A hui hou aku.

`O ka hali`a aloha ka i hiki mai
Ke hone a`e nei i ku`u manawa.
`O `oe nò ka`u ipo aloha
A loko e hana nei.

Maopopo ku`u `ike i ka nani
Nà pua rose o Mauna-wili.
I laila ho`ohie nà manu,
Miki`ala i ka nani o ia pua.

Translation:

Proudly the rain on the cliffs
Creeps into the forest
Seeking the buds
And miniature lehua flowers of the uplands.

Chorus:
Farewell to thee, farewell to thee
O fragrance in the blue depths.
One fond embrace and I leave
To meet again.

Sweet memories come
Sound softly in my heart.
You are my beloved sweetheart
Felt within.

I understand the beauty
Of rose blossoms at Mauna-wili.
There the birds delight
To the beauty of this flower.

Queen Liliuokalani (Hawaii's last reigning monarch) wrote this as a "goodbye" love song for two lovers...probably her sister and her husband. It has now become the most loved song in the Islands. It is sung at the opening of the Legislature, at weddings, at the end of concerts...you name it. All of a sudden somebody will sing the opening notes, and everybody (and I mean everybody!) will join in and sing. To the Native Hawaiians it is held as the farewell song to the monarchy and the loss of their kingdom. Sad and beautiful and always profoundly moving.

Crap....what you started! Gotta go get some more kleenex....

Let's Talk Dirty In Hawain
John Prine

Well, I packed my bags and bought myself a ticket
For the land of the tall palm tree.
Aloha, Old Milwaukee, Hello, Waikiki
I just stepped down from the airplane
When I heard her say,
"Wacka, wacka, nooka likka,
Wacka, wacka, nooka likka,
Would you like a lei?"

Chorus:
Hey!
Let's talk dirty in Hawaiin,
Whisper in my ear.
Kicka pooka mok a wa wahine
Are the words I lont to hear.
Lay your coconuta on my tiki,
What the hecka, mooka, mooka, dear,
Let's talk dirty in Hawaiin,
Say the words I long to hear.

It's a ukelele, Honolulu sunset,
Listen to the grass skirts sway,
Drinkin' rum from the pineapple
Out on Honolulu Bay.
The steel guitars are playing
While she's talinkg with her hands,
"Gimme, gimme oka-doka make a wisha wanna polka,"
Words I understand.

Chorus

Well, I boughta lotta junka with my moola,
And I sent it to the folks back home,
I never had a chance to dance the hula,
Well, I guess I should have known.
When you start talkin' to a sweet wahine,
Walkin' in the pale moonlight
Ohka noka whatta setta knocka-rocka sis-boom-boccas."
Hope I said it right.

Chorus
