My goodnight song, listeners, and also a tribute to our McTag:

The music is by Alexander Hume. The poem was presented by Robert Burns to Mrs. General Stewart of Slair in 1791 and appeared in the Scots Musical Museum in 1792. It was inspired by her home Afton Lodge in Ayeshire on the banks of the Afton River. The Mary probably refers to Mary Campbell, whom Burns courted in 1786, the year the song was written.

Flow gently, sweet Afton,
amang thy green braes,
Flow gently, I'll sing thee
a song in thy praise;
My Mary's asleep
by thy murmuring stream,
Flow gently, sweet Afton,
disturb not her dream.

Thou stock dove whose echo
resounds thro' the glen,
Ye wild whistly blackbirds
in yon thorny den,
Thou green crested lapwing
thy screaming forbear,
I charge you, disturb not
my slumbering fair.

How lofty, sweet Afton,
thy neighboring hills,
Far mark'd with the courses
of clear winding rills;
There daily I wander
as noon rises high,
My flocks and my Mary's
sweet cot in my eye.

How pleasant thy banks
and green valleys below,
Where, wild in the woodlands,
the primroses blow;
There oft, as mild evening
weeps over the lea,
The sweet-scented birk shades
my Mary and me.

Thy crystal stream, Afton,
how lovely it glides,
And winds by the cot where
my Mary resides;
How wanton thy waters
her snowy feet lave,
As, gathering sweet flowerets,
she stems thy clear wave.

And should you want to listen further:

Make sure the studio speakers are on.

Goodnight.

La mer
Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer
Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie

La mer
Au ciel d'ete confond
Ses blancs moutons
Avec les anges si purs
La mer bergere d'azur
Infinie

Voyez
Pres des etangs
Ces grands roseaux mouilles
Voyez
Ces oiseaux blancs
Et ces maisons rouillees

La mer
Les a berces
Le long des golfes clairs
Et d'une chanson d'amour
La mer
A berce mon coeur pour la vie

here is a little bedtime reading(published in our local seniors' magazine).

WHAT ARE SENIORS WORTH ?

what are seniors worth ? we are worth a fortune !

remember, old folks are worth a fortune with :

silver in their hair, gold in their teeth, stones in their kidneys, and gas in their stomachs (have you noticed the price of natural gas recently ?).
i have become a little older since i saw you last and a few changes have come into my life ... frankly, i've become a frivolous old gal !

i am seeing five gentleman every day. as soon as i wake up, will power helps me out of bed. then i go and see john. next charlie horse comes along and when he is here he demands a lot of my attention.

when he leaves arthur ritis shows up and stays the rest of the day. he doesn't like to stay in one place very long, so he takes me from joint to joint.
after such a busy day i'm really tired and glad to go to bed with bengay ... who gives me so much comfort !

what a life ! oh, i almost forget i'm also flirting with al zymer now and then !

P.S. the preacher came to call the other day. he said that at my age i should be thinking a lot about the hereafter. i told him, "oh, i do all the time. no matter where i am, in the parlour, upstairs, in the kitchen, or in the basement, i ask myself ... now what i'm here after ? "

Martin Luther King Day's around the corner.

Back of the Bus

If you miss me at the back of the bus
You can't find me nowhere
Oh come on over to the front of the bus
Because I'll be riding up there
I'll be riding up there, I'll be riding up there
Come on over to the front of the bus
Because I'll be riding up there

If you miss me on the picket line
You can't find me nowhere
Come on over to the city jail
Because I'll be rooming over there
I'll be rooming over there
I'll be rooming over there oh
Come on over to the city jail
Because I'll be rooming over there

If you miss me at the Mississippi river
You can't find me nowhere
Come on over to the swimming pool
Because I'll be swimming over there
I'll be swimming over there, over there
I'll be swimming right there
Come on over to the swimming pool
Because I'll be swimming over there

If you miss me in the cotton fields
You can't find me nowhere
Come on over to the voting booth
Because I'll be a voting right there
I'll be voting right there, right there
I'll be voting right there
Well come on over to the voting booth
Because I'll be voting right there

A special song for our Sleeping Letty...
Sweet dreams, my dear.

THE SWEETEST GIFT
Sade

Quietly while you were asleep
The Moon and I were talking
I asked that she'd always keep you protected

She promised you her light
That you so gracefully carry
You bring your light and shine like morning

And then the wind pulls the clouds across the Moon
Your light fills the darkest room
And I can see the miracle
That keeps us from falling

She promised all the sweetest gifts
That only the heavens could bestow
You bring your light and shine like morning

And as you so gracefully give
Her light as long as you live
I'll always remember this moment

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

edgar has just reminded us via a song, that January is the month that honors Martin Luther King. Thanks, Texas. We most certainly will dedicate a day here on our radio to that man.

hamburger, that is one reminder many of us can do without, Canada. <smile> Funny, however.

detano, that lovely song is marvelous and is done everywhere by everyone on TV and other media, but the lyrics in French are the most alluring. Thanks for playing it. I had no idea that it was originally written by Charles Trenet until I became interested after watching, Beyond the Sea with Kevin Spacey in the roll of Bobby Darin.

Ah, Eva. Thank YOU for that wonderful post bedtime song, honey. I have never heard it, but the lyrics are lovely.

and in English, listeners:

Artist: Kevin Spacey Lyrics
Song: Beyond the Sea Lyrics

Somewhere beyond the sea
Somewhere waiting for me
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships that go sailin'

Somewhere beyond the sea
She's there watching for me
If I could fly like birds on a high
Then straight to her arms
I'd go sailing

It is far beyond the stars
It is near beyond the moon
But I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon

We'll meet beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailing

And I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet (I know we'll meet) beyond the shore
We're gonna kiss just as before
And happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailing

No more sailing
So long sailing
Bye bye sailing...

Good morning WA2K and listeners.

A Happy Birthday to:

Julia Louis-Dreyfus (born January 13, 1961 in New York City) is an American actress and comedian.

Born in New York City of partially French Jewish descent, Louis-Dreyfus was a cast member on NBC's Saturday Night Live from 1982 to 1985. While on SNL, she met writer Larry David, who would later co-create Seinfeld. Louis-Dreyfus also appeared in quite a few sitcoms and films over the years but is best known for her nine-season role as "Elaine Benes" on NBC's Seinfeld from 1990 to 1998.

After Seinfeld, Louis-Dreyfus began a new NBC sitcom, Watching Ellie, which was soon cancelled. She had a notable recurring guest role as the compulsively lying prosecutor Maggie Lizer on Arrested Development. She will star in the CBS sitcom Old Christine in the fall of 2006.

Her father is French billionaire Gerard Louis-Dreyfus (who changed his name to William in the 1940s); her grandfather Pierre Louis-Dreyfus fought for the French Resistance during World War II. Her cousin Robert Louis-Dreyfus is the former owner of Adidas(1993-2001) and the current owner of the French football club Olympique de Marseille. Some biographies claim she is related to the late Alfred Dreyfus, a French military officer best known for being the focus of the Dreyfus affair.

She is married to actor/writer Brad Hall since 1987, whom she met while they were students at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. The couple has two sons.

Since May 2005 she's been a contributing blogger at The Huffington Post.

There's our Raggedy, listeners. Thanks, PA, for the reminder. Don't know the lady of whom you speak, but I was very interested in the Dreyfus Affair, and went to the archives to refresh my memory. How many historical people have paid the price for another's immorality.

Letty, the lady of whom I speak was Elaine Benes" on NBC's Seinfeld from 1990 to 1998. And if you didn't watch that show, you and I are probably the only two people in the U.S. ,and maybe Europe, who didn't. Smile

My word, Raggedy. Now I know who she is. To be frank, PA. I never like that show, so I watched it very seldom.

Well, listeners, we hear it all here on our cyber radio, right?

Now we are awaiting Europe to say, Hello.

Well, folks. Francis just made me laugh.

Goodbye broadway; hello, France. Razz

That's a WWI song, I think, buddy.

Let's play that one, shall we?

Goodbye Broadway, Hello France

First Verse
Good-bye New York town, good-bye Miss Liberty,
Your light of freedom will guide us across the sea,
Ev'ry soldier's sweetheart biding good-bye,
Ev'ry soldier's mother drying her eye.
Cheer up we'll soon be there,
Singing this Yan-kee air:

Chorus
Good-bye Broadway, Hello France,
We're ten million strong,
Good-bye sweethearts, wives and mothers,
It won't take us long,
Don't you worry while we're there,
It's for you we're fighting too,
So Good-bye Broadway, Hello France,
We're going to square our debt to you.

Second Verse
Vive Pershing is the cry across the sea.
We're united in this fight for liberty.
France sent us a soldier, brave La Fayette
Whose deeds and fame we cannot forget.
Now that we have the chance
We'll pay our debt to France.

Chorus
Good-bye Broadway, Hello France,
We're ten million strong,
Good-bye sweethearts, wives and mothers,
It won't take us long,
Don't you worry while we're there,
It's you we're fighting for,
So Good-bye Broadway, Hello France,
We're going to help you win this war.

By 1918 the percentage of women to men working in Britain had risen to 37% from 24% at the start of the war.

Well, hello, Mr. Turtle.

Is that el Geeko? <smile>

Speaking of artists, we haven't seen JL in a loooooggggggg time.

And just where is Germany?

Hey, how about an oldie by John Travolta and Olivia:

Artist: John Travolta / Olivia Newton Lyrics
Song: You're the One That I Want Lyrics

I got chills, they're multiplyin', and I'm losin' control
Cause the power you're supplyin', it's electrifyin'

You better shape up, cause I need a man,
and my heart is set on you
You better shape up, you better understand,
to my heart I must be true
Nothing left, nothing left for me to do

Chorus:
You're the one that I want
(you are the one I want), ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want),
ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want),
ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one I need (the one I need),
oh yes indeed (yes indeed)

If you're filled with affection,
You're too shy to convey
Meditate my direction, feel your way

I better shape up,
cause you need a man
I need a man,
Who can keep me satisfied
I better shape up, if I'm gonna prove
You better prove, that my fate is justified
Are you sure?
Yes I'm sure down deep inside

[chorus repeats out]

Good grief, listeners. Did I see that Claude Francois was the originator of that song?

THE CREAM: Strange Brew

http://pic19.picturetrail.com/VOL1037/971768/inbox/9943.jpg

Strange brew -- kill what's inside of you.

She's a witch of trouble in electric blue,
In her own mad mind she's in love with you.
With you.
Now what you gonna do?
Strange brew -- kill what's inside of you.

She's some kind of demon messing in the glue.
If you don't watch out it'll stick to you.
To you.
What kind of fool are you?
Strange brew -- kill what's inside of you.

On a boat in the middle of a raging sea,
She would make a scene for it all to be
Ignored.
And wouldn't you be bored?
Strange brew -- kill what's inside of you.

Strange brew, strange brew, strange brew, strange brew.
Strange brew -- kill what's inside of you.
