good evening all listeners and thanks for the great music !

today is the birthday of Etta James - here she is with " I just want to make love to you " .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZOgdP9MZg0

Quote:
Etta James (born Jamesetta Hawkins; January 25, 1938 – January 20, 2012) was an American singer-songwriter. Her style spanned a variety of music genres including blues, R&B, soul, rock and roll, jazz and gospel. Starting her career in 1954, she gained fame with hits such as "The Wallflower", "At Last", "Tell Mama", "Something's Got a Hold on Me", and "I'd Rather Go Blind" for which she wrote the lyrics.[1] She faced a number of personal problems, including drug addiction, before making a musical resurgence in the late 1980s with the album Seven Year Itch.[2]

James is regarded as having bridged the gap between rhythm and blues and rock and roll, and is the winner of six Grammys and 17 Blues Music Awards. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Grammy Hall of Fame in both 1999 and 2008.[3] Rolling Stone ranked James number 22 on their list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and number 62 on the list of the 100 Greatest Artists.

one more time :

Etta James, Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan - and B B King

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoBlmp9cOL4

Quote:
There ain't nothing I can do, or nothing I can say,
Some folks will criticize me.
So I'm gonna do just what I want to anyway,
And don't care if you all despise me.

If I should take a notion
To jump into the ocean,
It ain't nobody's business if I do.

If I go to church on Sunday
And I shimmy down on Monday,
It ain't nobody's business if I do.

And if my friend ain't got no money
And I say, "All right, take all of mine honey,"
It ain't nobody's business if I do.

If I lend her my last nickel
And it leaves me in a pickle,
It ain't nobody's business if I do.

I would rather my gal would hit me
Than to haul right up and quit me.
It ain't nobody's business if I do.

I know that she won't call no copper
If she gets beat up by her poppa.
It ain't nobody's business if I do, Lord no.
Well, it ain't nobody's business if I do.

saying good night with Antonio Carlos Jobim ( who unfortunately is no longer with us ) :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CYpukkQo04

Quote:
Antônio "Tom" Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim (January 25, 1927 – December 8, 1994), also known as Tom Jobim (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈtõ ʒoˈbĩ]), was a Brazilian songwriter, composer, arranger, singer, and pianist/guitarist. He was a primary force behind the creation of the bossa nova style, and his songs have been performed by many singers and instrumentalists within Brazil and internationally.

Widely known as the composer of "Garota de Ipanema" (The Girl from Ipanema), one of the most recorded songs of all time, Jobim has left a large number of songs that are today included in jazz and pop standard repertoires.

Good morning, y'all from here in Florida.

Sleep well, hbg. My favorite of yours was One Not Samba.

edgar, Didn't know Change by Bobby. It was great Curtis' Pretty Little Angel Eyes was great, too. Thanks again for your comment and personal acknowledgement.

Two tributes for the morning here.

@edgarblythe,
Well, edgar, the first time I was introduced to Hugh Laurie was via Doctor House. Had no idea that he was British. Yep, Paul was great in The Sting replete with Scott Joplin.

Incidentally, hbg, that should have been one NOTE Sambe.

As you know, Texas, my mom love "the crooner", and he was great doing that one with the kids. All those animals said a lot about people as Bing noted.

Speaking of sea creatures (no, not fish)here is a poem that tells a story about The Chambered Nautilus.

Now, our hymn for today that matches it.

Where is everybody? Today is Anita Baker's birthday, so I thought I would play two versions of the same song.

First some info on Anita:

Anita Denise Baker (born January 26, 1958)[1] is an American singer-songwriter. Starting her career in the late-1970s with the funk band Chapter 8, Baker eventually released her first solo album, The Songstress, in 1983. In 1986, she rose to stardom following the release of her platinum-selling second album, Rapture, which included the Grammy-winning single "Sweet Love". To date, Baker has won eight Grammy Awards and has four platinum albums and two gold albums to her credit. Baker has an alto vocal style

Now, her version of The Bridge.

Art insisted that Paul's voice was perfect for 'Bridge' but Paul pushed Art into doing the honors. Paul McCartney said he wanted to do another "Bridge' when he wrote the following

edgar, I think you already played that one by the Crooner. Razz

pushman, I think your first version was Reggae, right?

@Letty,
Sorry but the person who entitled the video got it wrong. The song is Black Night, it's by heavy metal band Deep Purple. This version by ska band Bad Manners is completely different. Like this version of Mrs Robinson.

Filmed in my favourite place in the world, Amsterdam.

Ah, I had hope that all of you here would have liked The Chambered Nautilus.

I certainly know Mrs. Robinson from The Graduate, pushman. Didn't know the guy who did it, but he was good.

How about this guy from The Sting
