@George,
Good Sunday morning to you as well, Latin George, and to all our listeners and contributors.

Don't know Patty Griffin, but If I had My Way was great.

Here's one by "gentleman Jim".

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comment, edgar. Wow! Had no idea that Tony and K.D. sang Blue Velvet. Good one.

Here's old blue eyes singing about blue skies.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h03eH51rsuM

and, the lyrics to a song I wrote for my mom so long ago.

I'm thinking right now of my mom,
As I think I just can't help a smile.

I can picture her quite clearly,
Playing hymns she love so dearly
Singing with her eyes closed all the while.

I 'm thinking right now of my mom,
Of the soft felt slippers she wears.
The clear blue of her eyes,
Her home made apple pies,
And the hands that soothed away
My childish cares.

I think of her often, I want her to know
Of the love that I feel, but don't often show.

I never write letters it seems,
And my gifts are quit often too few.

And though I'm still that way,
I just want to say,
I'm thinking right now, mom, of you

Nice poem letty. And thanks for Sinatra's Blue Skies song.
This next song is one I have heard by author, Hoagy Carmichael and also Kay Kyser. Today I am learning it from Willie Nelson.

@edgarblythe,
Glad you liked the poem that was set to music, edgar, and I believe I like Buttemilk Sky better by Willy, although I laud Hoagy's creative productions.

Thinking of my daughter who sent me a lovely vase of flowers, and because she played this Beethoven's classical piece flawlessly, I'm going to play it for her.

Ah, the glittering Commodores, edgar. Love Easy. Don't know it so once again, thanks for the introduction.

Your song reminded me of this one.

Happy mothers day to all. I hope no one minds if we switch gears to some fiery stuff. I'm taking my jazz alphabet international today. First, the canadian high note specialist, Maynard Ferguson, doing Sonny Rollins' "Airegin":

Next, Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek, with an all scandinavian rhythm section, on "Witchi-Tai-To":

This covers the letters F&G, but I'll have one or 2 more G musicians later--I promise it won't be Kenny G. Razz

@yitwail,
Thanks again for the mother's day recognition, turtle man. To be honest, Maynard is what I call frantic music. Must have been some gin in the air. Razz

As for Jay, I thought at first you were going to play Witchita Lineman. Don't know him, however, so I'll just say, thanks for the introduction. Who's Kenny G?

Another G, honu.

@yitwail,
honu, I loved Jobim doing "slightly out of tune/off key". Oh, yes, dear friend, I know both of those G's. Sang this one on TV so long ago.

@Letty,
Mother's day & all, how bout one more Jobim song by Getz/Gilberto:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxrja0J7JUc

I think it's very cool the way it repeats the same note at the start of the verses. The same effect as in One Note Samba, but it's more subtle here.

good evening msletty , ed and all listeners to WA2K Radio !
...................................................................
some fine music from this station again on Mother's Day .
....................................................................

two french composers have their birthdays today .

here is the first one :

Quote:

Jules Émile Frédéric Massenet (French: [ʒyl emil fʁedeʁik masnɛ]; 12 May 1842 – 13 August 1912) was a French composer best known for his operas. His compositions were very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and he ranks as one of the greatest melodists of his era. Soon after his death, Massenet's style went out of fashion, and many of his operas fell into almost total oblivion. Apart from Manon and Werther, his works were rarely performed. However, since the mid-1970s, many operas of his such as Thaïs and Esclarmonde have undergone periodic revivals.

honu, Loved Dreamer by them. What a great jazz day on WA2K

edgar, Dear Judy Collins. In The Twilight was a perfect song for her mom.

Going to say goodnight with two songs. First more synchronicity. I saw that folks are remembering Dave Brubeck today, and here is his quartet playing Waltz for Kathy. She was his little daughter that dressed up and danced at one of their jam sessions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1Nfijy6Yxs

Now, a surprise for me. This was one of my mom's favorite songs and it's being done by "the king".

All of y'all hold good thoughts for edgar and me. We need "the power of positive thinking"

Always good to have Ontario via Germany and Hawaii with us.

From Letty with love and memories.

it's also the birthday of :

Quote:
Gabriel Urbain Fauré (French: [ɡabʁiɛl yʁbɛ̃ fɔʁe]; 12 May 1845 – 4 November 1924)[n 1] was a French composer, organist, pianist and teacher. He was one of the foremost French composers of his generation, and his musical style influenced many 20th-century composers. Among his best-known works are his Pavane, Requiem, nocturnes for piano and the songs "Après un rêve" and "Clair de lune". Although his best-known and most accessible compositions are generally his earlier ones, Fauré composed many of his greatest works in his later years, in a harmonically and melodically much more complex style.
