@edgarblythe,
Thanks for your comment, edgar, and that cover of Jerry Lee's Mean Woman Blues was great.

Here's one to match by "Lady Day"

Oops, hbg, missed your Irving Berlin recognition. Back later to comment.

good morning msletty , ed and all other listeners to WA2K Radio !

already some fine music being played for the weekend - and plenty more to come !

a great american composer has his birthday today - we all know him well !

Quote:
Irving Berlin (May 11, 1888 – September 22, 1989) was an American composer and lyricist of Belarusian Jewish origin (born near Mogilev[1][2] in Russian Empire, nowadays Belarus), widely considered one of the greatest songwriters in American history. He published his first song, "Marie from Sunny Italy", in 1907 and had his first major international hit, "Alexander's Ragtime Band" in 1911.

no one better to play it but SATCHMO himself !!! Smile Smile Smile

one more birthday before heading off for lunch :

Quote:
Salvatore "Tutti" Camarata (May 11, 1913 – April 13, 2005) was a composer, arranger and trumpeter.

Camarata, born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, and studied music at Juilliard School in New York - a student of Bernard Wagenaar, Joseph Littau, Cesare Sodero, and Jan Meyerowitz. His early career was as a trumpet player for bands such as Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and others, eventually becoming the lead trumpet and arranger for Jimmy Dorsey (arranging such hits as Tangerine, Green Eyes and Yours).[1] He also did arranging for Glen Gray and the Casa Loma Orchestra, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington and many others. He conducted and orchestrated a recording of Jascha Heifetz, the legendary violinist.

@edgarblythe,
Yep, edgar, dear Billie was a fantastic vocalist. Loved Louie, Louie by The Animal House. You meant "play", of course. Razz

Since that ragtime wouldn't play here, let's do a tribute to Irving Berlin.

Know every one of those songs.

@Letty,
Aloha. I'm belatedly acknowledging "Peace in the Valley". I happen to love Elvis' rendition, and it's good to learn about the songwriter. Thanks hbg.

Ms. Letty, I'm not surprised your late husband noted Paul Desmond's departure from the Brubeck quartet. Desmond was a true virtuoso.

Today is E day for me. I'm featuring 2 musicians. Bill Evans is maybe my third favorite jazz musician, so I have to play something by him. Here's "When I Fall in Love" with his trio. I think it's fabulous, but I understand Evans didn't care for it. Mr. Evans was a bit perfectionist I think.

And for something completely different, a soul jazz version of the pop tune "More Today Than Yesterday" by Charles Earland on organ. See if you can spot the guitarist quoting a pop tune by the Association.

edgar, that one by "the fab four" I didn't know. Thanks again for the introduction.

What is all this trash that I've been reading about Paul McCartney being dead for a long time?

Welcome back, yitwail. Ah, I love Bill Evans's trio doing When I fall in love. Also know the song I Love You More Today Than Yesterday, but not the performer. Great.

Another face, folks.

"Paul is dead" is an urban legend suggesting that Paul McCartney of the English rock band the Beatles died in 1966 and was secretly replaced by a look-alike.
In September 1969, American college students published articles claiming that clues to McCartney's death could be found among the lyrics and artwork of the Beatles' recordings. Clue-hunting proved infectious and within a few weeks had become an international phenomenon. Rumours declined after a contemporary interview with McCartney was published in Life magazine in November 1969. Popular culture continues to make occasional reference to the legend.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I have never heard Rosemary look better or sing better. Tenderly was lovely by her. (I figured as much about Paul)

Don't know Speedo by The Cadillacs, but here's a funny one by "the boss" (no, not Setanta) to match.

Good morning, WA2K folks, and HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all who celebrate it today.

Latin George, Welcome back and thanks for that funny comment about Letty/Betty. Loved your song by Buffalo Springfield: Everybody Looks What Going Down was great.

edgar, Goldie Hawn's Nobody Does it Like Me was really good.

hbg, Enjoyed all three of your wonderful songs: Venetian Polka, Puttin on the Ritz and Little Bench in the Park reminded me of Denmark. Still trying to locate our fantastic guy who did wood sculptures and he was from Denmark. Hope someone here remembers him.

Inspired by our Ontarian German, here are a couple by Danny Kaye.
