Here is a rainy day song - We are to be wet through tuesday around here. I wouldn't trade it for the weather up north, however.

@edgarblythe,
I didn't know Rex Wells either, edgar. Just lookin' for Blood on the Saddle.

Great one by the Hollies, Texas. For a moment there I thought you meant Buddy. Razz

You sent me searching again.

The Hollies are an English pop group formed in Manchester in the early 1960s, although the majority of the band members came from towns in East Lancashire.

Put this one on The Canada thread. I recall it being in my head after hurricane Frances when we went to a shelter from that storm.

@Letty,

Hi radio listeners.

When I got this call I was listening to Brahms, Academic Festival Overture, which goes a lot like this:

@McTag,
Welcome back, McTag. Love that Brahms Overture and the visuals are breath taking.

Here is an unusual Brahms as played by Japanese artists and a lovely violinist.

good evening msletty , ed and all listeners !

a great lady and wonderful artist has her birthday today :

Quote:
Mary Violet Leontyne Price (born February 10, 1927) is an American soprano. Born and raised in the Deep South, she rose to international acclaim in the 1950s and 1960s, and was one of the first African Americans to become a leading artist at the Metropolitan Opera.[1][2][3]

One critic characterized Price's voice as "vibrant", "soaring" and "a Price beyond pearls", as well as "genuinely buttery, carefully produced but firmly under control", with phrases that "took on a seductive sinuousness." [4] Time magazine called her voice "Rich, supple and shining, it was in its prime capable of effortlessly soaring from a smoky mezzo to the pure soprano gold of a perfectly spun high C."[5]
...
Among her many honors are the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1964), the Spingarn Medal (1965),[6] the Kennedy Center Honors (1980), the National Medal of Arts (1985), numerous honorary degrees, and nineteen Grammy Awards, 13 for operatic or song recitals, five for full operas, and a special Lifetime Achievement Award in 1989, more than any other classical singer. In October 2008, she was one of the recipients of the first Opera Honors given by the National Endowment for the Arts.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for your comment, edgar, and Love is in the Air is fantastic. Don't know John Paul Young but he is a great vocalist.

Incidentally, JL Nobody gave me permission to play Johnny's song.

Saying goodnight with two songs, y'all.

First, a tribute to Don McLean.

odd,
Don McLean Fined For Speeding; No Chevy (Or Levee) Involved

Now Brahms again with the lyrics for Sunday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t894eGoymio

Long ago, there was born In the City of David
A sweet, holy Babe
Who was Jesus our King
Angels sang at His birth, 'Lullaby, Peace On Earth'
Angels sang at His birth, 'Lullaby, Peace On Earth'

Jesus came as a Child
From His Father in Heaven
And has shown us the way
To be loving and kind
While the stars sang above, 'Lullaby, God Is Love'
While the stars sang above, 'Lullaby, God Is Love'

Lullaby and goodnight
Thy mother's delight
Bright angels beside The Baby abide
They will guard thee at rest, thou shalt wake on her breast
They will guard thee at rest, thou shalt wake on her breast

Angels sang at His birth, 'Lullaby, Peace On Earth'
Angels sang at His birth, 'Lullaby, Peace On Earth'

So great having Scotland with us as well as Ontario. Hope euro will appear again.

From Letty with love that will continue always.

good morning to all !

today is the birthday of Sergio Mendez .

Quote:
Sérgio Santos Mendes (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈsɛʁʒu ˈsɐ̃tuʒ ˈmẽdʒiʃ]; born February 11, 1941[1] in Niterói, Brazil) is a Brazilian musician. He has over fifty-five releases, and plays bossa nova heavily crossed with jazz and funk.[1] He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2012 as co-writer of the song "Real In Rio" from the animated film Rio.

Mendes is married to Gracinha Leporace who has performed with her husband since the early 1970s. He has collaborated with many artists through the years, including the Black Eyed Peas, with whom he re-recorded a version of his original breakthrough hit "Mas Que Nada".

@hamburgboy,
I love Sergio Mendez. Mas que Nada, marvellous.

Can I try a little Marion Lanza on the Radio? From Tosca, e lucevan le stelle, I was trying to remember the tune this morning.

Or you can have Andrea Bocelli having a go at it.

edgar, thanks again for your comments, and Sweet Charity by Shirley MacLaine was great as was that funny song by Jimmie Pistol Packing PaPa. Hurry back, Texas.

Welcome back, hbg. Love Sergio and Brazil 66, and here's one to match.

Welcome back to you as well, McTag. Don't know the song either Andrea nor Mario are singing, but it must be A Night in Tuscany. They are both excellent. Odd, I just saw that someone named Berty McJock is on A2K and he's Scottish.

Today is Burt Reynolds birthday, and I have always liked that guy.

You think there's something odd about the Scots?

Well, you might be right at that. Wink

@McTag,
While we await our Scotsman to listen to Burt's tribute, let's listen to "old blue eyes" announce the beginning of Valentine's Day this Thursday.

What a voice has he.
