locally we have between one and two feet of snow on the ground .

the snowplow has been through several times already ... but within minutes

another windgust fills the road with snow again - not a day to be on the

road or in the air .

as long as we don't get any freezing rain , i'll be " as snug as a bug " under

Carmen Miranda, GCIH (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈkaɾmẽȷ̃ miˈɾɐ̃dɐ], 9 February 1909 – 5 August 1955) was a Portuguese-born Brazilian[1][2] samba singer, dancer, Broadway actress, and film star who was popular in the 1940s and 1950s.

After establishing a successful singing and acting career in Brazil, Lee Shubert signed Miranda and her band to a contract in 1939. She made her American stage debut in July 1939, and later moved to Hollywood to pursue a film career.[3] Nicknamed "The Brazilian Bombshell",[4] Miranda is noted for her signature fruit hat outfit she wore in the 1943 movie The Gang's All Here. By 1945, she was the highest paid woman in the United States.

good morning ms letty ( hope you are feeling better today ! ) , ed and all listeners .

Ernie Tubb - one of the great country singers - has his birthday today :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CknGpZmIYDY

Quote:
Ernest Dale Tubb (February 9, 1914 – September 6, 1984), nicknamed the Texas Troubadour, was an American singer and songwriter and one of the pioneers of country music. His biggest career hit song, "Walking the Floor Over You" (1941), marked the rise of the honky tonk style of music.[1] In 1948, he was the first singer to record a hit version of "Blue Christmas", a song more commonly associated with Elvis Presley and his mid-1950s version. Another well-known Tubb hit was "Waltz Across Texas" (1965), which became one of his most requested songs and is often used in dance halls throughout Texas during waltz lessons. Tubb recorded duets with the then up-and-coming Loretta Lynn in the early 1960s, including their hit "Sweet Thang". Tubb is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

edgar, Thanks again for your comments. I Cried a Tear by Laverne was great as was Chuck's What Am I Livin' For.

hbg, thanks for your salutation and I really liked Frank's Let it Snow plus Ernest's Waltz Across Texas. Especially enjoyed Stompin' Tom's hockey tribute.

Ah, woe is me. Had my first car accident since I have been driving. Rolling Eyes

Two songs for today. First, a tribute to Alice Walker who is the author of The Color Purple. Here is the theme from the movie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cryS1BKarR0

I will never understand how Out of Africa won over that fantastic movie.

Now, since a lot of stars are saluting Bruce Springsteen, let's hear one from him.

My wife and I both loved The Color Purple.
Bruce's song reminds me of some early Dylan material.

Your fender bender accident prompts me to play this song. Neutral

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comment, edgar. A lot of people copied "the jester", buddy.

Well, The Shirelles were right, but my Mamma never told me, I'm afraid. Today is Carole King's birthday, and she says it right about our folks on the radio.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJPgxEi2BM8

She and James Taylor collaborated on many songs.

@hamburgboy,
I'm afraid it was a bit more involved than that, hbg, but I won't go into it on our radio.

What a perfect song by Freddy, Ontario via Germany. Thanks for that great connection.

One by Jim Croce, now.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks, Texas, for your comment.

I love Brook Benton doing Frankie and Johnny. I cannot believe how many folks did that song.

Your song reminded me of this one and gangs of people did it as well. Here's the instrumental.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zayVtPN18mg

and the lyrics.

Dinner for one please, james,
The madame will not be dining.
Yes, you may bring the wine in,
Love plays such funny games.

Dinner for one please, james,
Close madame's room, we've parted.
Please, don't look so downhearted,
Love plays such funny games.

Seems my best friend told her of another,
I had no chance to deny.
You know there has never been another,
Someday she'll find out the lie.

Maybe she's not to blame,
Leave me with silent hours.
No, don't move her favorite flowers
Dinner for one please James

@edgarblythe,
You're right, edgar. I remember Miss Otis best by Nat Cole.

Wow! Loved Ricky's I've Got an Angel on My Mind That's Why I'm Walkin'

When I was a wee child in Virginia, I walked everywhere.

Here's another Walking song that you know, I believe.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, as you know I love Ricky Nelson, and although I don't know Sweeter Than You, it was excellent. Thanks again for your comments.

Just found out that John Steinbeck wrote Viva Zapata and it's showing right now on TCM.

Going to say goodnight with a Mexican song that I sang briefly to the kid at Seven Eleven.

Two fabulous singers taken from us too soon, Texas.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_moYXvBhUWc

Goodnight to all of you everywhere.

Great to have hbg with us and hope that more nations will join us to tomorrow.

as always...

From Letty with love

Viva Zapata was my earliest memory of both Marlon Brando and Anthony Quinn. I love that movie.
Jim Reeves was another favorite of mine.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! I've never heard "the jester" sing better, edgar. Thanks for your comment on the man riding the white horse.

More synchronicity. Today is Jim Croce's birthday, and the last song that he sang was I've Got a Name. Always thought he was Hispanic, but he's Italian.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPu_G-T28iU

And, the Spanish lyrics to the rose man.

Rosa de Mexicali no llores;
Piensa que muy pronto volveré,
Y que siempre triste sin consuelo,
Cada noche y dia yo pasaré,
Seca tus hermosos ojos,
Deja de llorar y suspirar.
Bésame otra vez y estréchame;
Rosa de Mexicali, adios.

And another by Marty Robbins.

Marty had a comic flair that made his live appearances even more enjoyable.
Jim Croce - wish he had lived long enough to record a dozen more albums.
