Davis Eli "David" Ruffin (January 18, 1941 – June 1, 1991) was an American soul singer and musician most famous for his work as one of the lead singers of the Temptations from 1964 to 1968 (or the group's "Classic Five" period as it was later known). He was the lead voice on such famous songs as "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg." Known for his unique raspy and anguished tenor vocals, Ruffin was ranked as one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine in 2008.[1] He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 for his work with the Temptations.[2] Fellow Motown recording artist Marvin Gaye once said admiringly of Ruffin that, "I heard in [his voice] a strength my own voice lacked

edgar, Thanks for the comment. I remember Bobby doing Artificial Flowers. Dear Bobby. Such a fantastic voice.

hbg, Thanks for that info. I most certainly know The Temptations. You continue to amaze me. My Girl was great.

Inspired by my daughter's report on the blizzard.

@hamburgboy,
hbg, I love all gypsy music. Sorry to say that I don't know Bamboleo, but it was great.

Another birthday guy. His life was quite sad, but he lived it to the max.

hbg, Loved Dark Eyes. Wasn't that La Chachonia? Funny about your dad.

edgar, Thanks again for your comment and Leonard's Gypsy Wife was great. Didn't know the four with Dennis Yost , but thanks again for the introduction to Stormy.

Going to say goodnight with two songs.

First, the theme from Alfred Hitchcock's many presentations.

Thanks for restoring our signal, edgar, and Stan Freberg was one of the funniest guys I have ever heard. Love his parody on the Rock Island Line. Stan Freberg presents the United States of America was hilarious.

Welcome back, Latin George. Fantastic version of the "red devil". Love Spanish Guitars.

Today is the birthday of Edgar Allan Poe, so here is a long overdue tribute to the man.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, I was wondering what had happened to The Raven. Like that one by Glass Prism much better.

Here is one of his most famous poems done in another language, but English lyrics will follow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuZMhbU5TPY

Annabel Lee

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me-
Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.
Edgar Allan Poe

@edgarblythe,
Funny, edgar. Had no ideas that "the king" did that one.

Remember Hamp?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEEgrh5A1-A

sang that once at a jam session, and the woman asked me how to phrase it like I did.

@edgarblythe,
Great one by Harry, edgar. Ah, I had no idea that "the king" did Crying in the Chapel. Somehow, that makes me a bit sad.

Another memory.
