Calling, Texas. Hope those squirrels didn't bite you.

Saying goodnight with two songs. First, a classic. Don't know why I became so fascinated with Voltaire. Certainly not French 101.

Revolution
I used to know Marty's song by another artist. Can't remember who.
In my Life is a good song for that Lucy/Desi tribute. Candide music was good also.

of course we can esily switch from " classical " to " country classical " music .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6nmib7UaKA

Quote:
Lester Raymond Flatt (June 19, 1914 – May 11, 1979) was a bluegrass musician and guitarist and mandolinist, best known for his membership in the Bluegrass duo The Foggy Mountain Boys, also known as "Flatt and Scruggs," with banjo picker Earl Scruggs. Flatt's career spanned multiple decades; besides his work with Scruggs, he released multiple solo and collaboration works. Flatt also served as a member of Bill Monroe's band during the 1940s.

( his birthday is in JUNE - not January - as claimed incorrectly on a certain website )

good morning to all !

let's wish a happy bithday to Slim Whitman :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZIKbJziquk

Ottis Dewey Whitman, Jr. (born January 20, 1924), known professionally as Slim Whitman, America"s favourite folk singer and early in his career as "The Smiling Starduster",[1] is an American country music and Western music singer and songwriter instrumentalist known for his yodelling abilities and his smooth high octave falsetto. He has sold in excess of 120 million albums in unit sales apparently more than The Beatles and even Elvis Presley who was the headlining backing act on a Whitman tour , he has had numerous successful recordings and charted recordings. He is consistently more popular throughout Europe, and in particular Britain, than in his native America, particularly with his covers of pop standards and movie songs , love songs, folk tunes and gospel melodic hymns .

His 1955 hit single "Rose Marie" held the Guinness World Record for the longest time at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart until Bryan Adams broke the record in 1991 after 36 years.

In the U.S., his "Indian Love Call" (1952) and "Secret Love" (1953) reached number 2 on the Billboard country chart

edgar, Loved the "fab four's" Revolution as well as Deano's Houston. Hurry back, Texas.

hbg. Good night and good morning to you as well. Love Carmen, of course, and Flatt's Bluebirds, but my favorite of yours is Ode to Joy. Will comment on your left handed guitar player later.

First, the English translation of Ode to Joy.

Joyful, joyful, we adore thee,
God of glory, Lord of love;
hearts unfold like flowers before thee,
opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
drive the dark of doubt away.
Giver of immortal gladness,
fill us with the light of day!

All thy works with joy surround thee,
earth and heaven reflect thy rays,
stars and angels sing around thee,
center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
flowery meadow, flashing sea,
chanting bird and flowing fountain,
call us to rejoice in thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving,
ever blessing, ever blest,
well-spring of the joy of living,
ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our brother,
all who live in love are thine;
teach us how to love each other,
lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the mighty chorus
which the morning stars began;
love divine is reigning o'er us,
binding all within its span.
Ever singing, march we onward,
victors in the midst of strife;
joyful music leads us sunward,
in the triumph song of life.

Now, a tribute to a birthday man.

I was a star trek fan years ago, but am mostly indifferent these days. It's a shame to lose so many favorite people to old age.
You'll Never Walk Alone is one of the truly great songs and a personal favorite of mine.

@edgarblythe,
I thought that I had seen La Dolce Vita, but when I searched for the plot and cast I don't think that I did, edgar.

Ah Johnny Mathis doing the theme from Romeo and Juliet. Love it.

Today is Lead Belly's birthday. Here's one by that great blues guitarist.

Leadbelly was an interesting character - in and out of jail, persuaded to sing folksongs when he would have preferred his own kind of blues. He didn't totally fit the image his friends tried to create for him.

@edgarblythe,
I didn't know a thing about Ledbelly, edgar. Just his status as a blues guitarist.

Love It's a Beautiful Morning by those Rascals.

Here's another birthday man. Don't know him either, but I love this song.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comment, edgar. Wonder what Merle was referring to when he did Silver Wings. Perhaps someone he loved flying away on an airplane? Loved that song.

Here's one to match, and our Sunday song

How about a politically correct Stan Freberg.

@edgarblythe,
If that gal goes on a sea cruise, I hope she doesn't get mal de mer. Thanks again for your comment, and although I don't know it, Let Me Take you on a Sea Cruise was great.

Well, Texas, with two you get egg roll, and so I was thinking of Swannanoa atop Afton Mountain. Swans mate for life as do America Eskimo dogs.

Saying goodnight with De Bussey.
