@hamburgboy,
thanks for restoring our signal, hbg. Didn't know I'm Doing What I'm Doing for Love, however. Be sure and check out Sade, Ontario.

Didn't Sophie once do God Bless America?

Here's another by Sophie.

Also thanks for the song by Marylin Horne. Great mezo soprano. Didn't know C stands for Cookie, but I certainly know Sesame Street

@Letty,
msletty ,

SADE is indeed a well-known singer .

here is how she describes herself :

Quote:
Sade Quote

" [I resist] the myth that I'm a shy, reclusive diva. I'm not shy or reclusive. I just spend my time with people rather than journalists.

from Opera to Country ( it's all done quite easily on WA2K ) :

it's Ronnie Milsap's birthday :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym1itHiNz1k

Quote:
Ronnie Lee Milsap (born January 16, 1946)[1] is an American country music singer and pianist. He was one of country music's most popular and influential performers of the 1970s and 1980s. He became country music's first well-known blind singer, and one of the most successful and versatile country "crossover" singers of his time, appealing to both country and pop music music markets with successful songs that incorporated pop, R&B, and rock and roll elements. Milsap’s biggest crossover hits include "It Was Almost Like a Song," "Smoky Mountain Rain," "(There's) No Gettin' Over Me," "I Wouldn't Have Missed It for the World," "Any Day Now," and "Stranger in My House," among others. He is credited with six Grammy Awards and 40 number one country hits, third to George Strait and Conway Twitty.

@hamburgboy,
hbg, We already did a Ronnie Milsap tribute. I know it's hard to keep up with everything we play here.

Thanks for the acknowledgement of Sade.

Here are the lyrics to your Carmen, Ontario.

Love is a rebellious bird
that nobody can tame,
and you call him quite in vain
if it suits him not to come.

Nothing helps, neither threat nor prayer.
One man talks well, the other's mum;
it's the other one that I prefer.
He's silent but I like his looks.

Love! Love! Love! Love!

Love is a gypsy's child,
it has never, ever, known a law;
love me not, then I love you;
if I love you, you'd best beware! etc.

The bird you thought you had caught
beat its wings and flew away ...
love stays away, you wait and wait;
when least expected, there it is!

All around you, swift, so swift,
it comes, it goes, and then returns ...
you think you hold it fast, it flees
you think you're free, it holds you fast.

Love! Love! Love! Love!

Glad you found Kate Moss's version of God Bless America.

Here's another Horne Razz

here is a splendid shanty : " YO-HO-HO ... and a bottle of RUM ! " -

performed by the Robert Wagner Chorale .

( makes me shiver a bit ! )

Quote:
Roger Wagner, KCSG (January 16, 1914 - September 17, 1992) was an American choral musician, administrator and educator.
......................................................................
In 1937, Wagner joined the MGM chorus in Hollywood and was subsequently appointed Music Director of St. Joseph's Church in Los Angeles where he established an outstanding choir of men and boys, including a young Paul Salamunovich. In 1945, Roger Wagner became the supervisor of young choruses for the City of Los Angeles, most notably the "Los Angeles Concert Youth Chorus." It was from a madrigal group of twelve of these singers that the Roger Wagner Chorale was born in 1946.

The Roger Wagner Chorale became recognized the world over through its numerous radio, concert, and television appearances, motion picture soundtracks The Gallant Hours, and more than eighty recordings (they were also famous for singing the theme song and "score" for I Married Joan). The Virtuoso recording won a Grammy Award and the popular carol recording Joy to the World was a Gold Record Album, selling more than a half million copies. The Chorale toured all over the world and included such outstanding singers as Marilyn Horne, Marni Nixon, Claudine Carlson, Harve Presnell (on several recordings), Salli Terri (on several recordings as well as researching for several of the LP liner notes), Earl Wrightson and Carol Neblett.

In 1964, on completion of the Los Angeles Music Center, Wagner and representatives of the Junior Chamber of Commerce formed a resident choral ensemble, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, which became a resident company of the Music Center alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Credits include performance with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra in the Presidential Inaugural at the Kennedy Center in 1973 and a tour of the Soviet Union as a United States State Department "cultural ambassador" in 1974. Wagner served as the Chorale's Music Director for 22 years until he was named Music Director Laureate.

@hamburgboy,
hbg, I know everyone of your songs. Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of Rum'- Battle Hymn of the Republic-Horns of plenty. Great ones, Ontario.

Here another horn of plenty.

Going to say Goodnight with one I put on Izzie's boat.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QZiFmOe4Mo

and part of the lyrics.

Chorus
Oh, the days of the Kerry dancing
Oh, the ring of the piper's tune
Oh, for one of those hours of gladness
Gone, alas, like our youth, too soon!
When the boys began to gather
In the glen of a summer's night
And the Kerry piper's tuning
Made us long with wild delight!
Oh, to think of it
Oh, to dream of it
Fills my heart with tears!

Way past my bedtime, y'all

From Letty with love to the world

Oops, y'all, I missed edgar's Horn. Hurry back, Texas. Remember Kirk Douglas in Young Man With the Horn?

hbg, I had forgotten about Harry James. Great one. You hurry back as well. Ertha Kitt just brings back memories of Santa Baby. She's delightful.

Not up to par today, and sorry for being so late to play, and it's this lady's birthday.

@edgarblythe,
You sent me searching again, edgar. First, some info.

David Akeman, better known as Stringbean, was an American country music banjo player and comedy musician best known for his role on the hit television show, Hee Haw, and as a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

He and his wife were murdered. Horrible.

"Lord I feel so unnecessary "

Remember this one, Texas?

Incidentally, I was amazed the Kirk Douglas did Young Man with the Horn

The lady we all knew as Dear Abby has died.

@edgarblythe,
I vaguely remember Dear Abby. Didn't she give advice to the lovelorn? Great tribute by John Prine.

Anyone remember this guy? Today is his birthday.
