Welcome back, Barry, and Just a Gigolo and I Ain't Got Nobody was funny.

edgar, I didn't know that Willie did that one either. I like to hear different performers do old songs. Ray Charles doing Yesterday was a great example of what I mean.Liked it!

Going to say goodnight with Johnny.

Great having Ontario, London, and Scotland with us today. I was delighted to meet our next door neighbor's wife who was a beautiful Japanese lady.

From Letty with love to everyone, everywhere.

Railways? Whoopee! I've been to the railways museum in Scranton, Penn and also the one in Sacramento with my friend c.i.
Magnificent.

Here's Willie Nelson, Spirit of New Orleans.

Well, I see that your PD isn't the only sleepless one here.

Know every one of those train songs but I like Born Free best by Matt Monroe.

hbg, thanks for the acknowledgement. For a while, I thought the Wabash Cannonball was a real train.

The worse experience of my life was Amtrak. Wish I could recognize each contribution, but I'm a wee bit stressed out

Anyone remember Doc Watson?

I love train songs and Doc Watson. For my money, City of New Orleans is the best train song of them all. This next song has mention of a train. Leadbelly recorded it at different times, calling it variously, Black Girl, My Girl and In the Pines. Here is my favorite version

edgar, For a while I thought that song was called "..In the Mines..". Perhaps it was the reference to the gal on the train and John Henry. Leadbelly of course, is great.

Latin George, Welcome back to you as well. Love The Joint is Jumpin' by Fats.

To whoever thumbed up my response, a simple "thank you". That expression says volumes.

My Mamma liked this one, so I'm going to play it. What a surprise to find that The Statler Brothers did it. There are only three of those guys left, however.

Welcome back Joe of all nations. Had no idea that you were a musician. How delightful to discover that.

Today is George <funky> Brown's birthday, so let's listen to Kool and the Gang.

good afternoon msletty , ed and all listeners !

i believe we forgot an important birthday yesterday .

one of the great american opera stars : Ms. Grace Brumby !

here she is with the HABANERA from the opera CARMEN :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qs0E2CufQ7c

Quote:
Grace Bumbry (born January 4, 1937), an American opera singer, is considered one of the leading mezzo-sopranos of her generation, as well as a major soprano for many years. She was a member of a pioneering generation of singers who followed Marian Anderson (including Leontyne Price, Martina Arroyo, Shirley Verrett and Reri Grist) in the world of classical music and paved the way for future African American opera and classical singers. Bumbry's voice was rich and sizable, possessing a wide range, and was capable of producing a very distinctive plangent tone. In her prime, she also possessed good agility and bel canto technique (see for example her renditions of the 'Veil Song' from Verdi's Don Carlo in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as her Ernani from the Chicago Lyric Opera in 1984). She was particularly noted for her fiery temperament and dramatic intensity on stage.

O proud left foot, that ventures quick within,
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin;
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Holey-Poke.
A mad gyration, hips in wonton swirl.
To spin! A wide release from heaven’s yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The hokey-poke-banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, ’tis what it’s all about.

hbg, That was a great operatic version of Habanera.

Funny quote, edgar.

Dear Latin George. I never see or hear Janis that I don't think of Don McLean.

"...I met a girl that sang the blues and I asked her for some happy news and she just smiled and walked away..." She did that one really well.

Here's a funny one to match hbg's and it's from Carmen Jones.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comments, edgar.

Julie London doing Black Coffee was great. I recall having said that she did the original of the one Cry Me a River, that I played by Diana Krall.

Another birthday man, but first some info.

Robert Selden Duvall is an American actor and director. He has won an Academy Award, two Emmy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards and a BAFTA over the course of his career.

Now, a surprise song by the man.
