edgar, thanks again for your comment. Glad you enjoyed the eight minute version of John. Love that one by George Hamilton. Don't know A Rose and a Baby Ruth, but it was a goodie. Of course you know I love Harry. Walking on the Green Grass was good.

Barry, Welcome back. Fantastic song by Cris. A Raincoat and A Rose was excellent as well as Kate's The Lark.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with a legend. First some info on this great performer.

John Roger Stephens (born December 28, 1978), better known by his stage name John Legend, is an American singer-songwriter and actor. He has won nine Grammy Awards, and in 2007, he received the special Starlight award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. It is rumoured that in 2001 Legend got his stage name from Grammy Award winning poet Carlyle, after hearing his music in a Kanye West studio session at Record Plant Studios in Hollywood, California.

Now, the song.

Been a while since we heard from euro. Hope he's okay.

Hurry back, edgar. Loved that one by "mr. dred locks". Thanks for your comment concerning John Legend.

hbg, I really enjoyed Brasil by that lady. Thanks, Ontario.

Well, I was awakened early this morning by someone singing Marta, Marta, so naturally I watched the TCM oldie. The movie was called Kiss Me Deadly a Mike Hammer film.

Enrico Caruso.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gJ0Jb_V_Tw

Odd, I knew a few of the English lyrics to that one, so I went searching and found these.

Marta, Marta

She appeared to me, purest of love. I discovered with my eyes this vision of delight. Lovely was she, that my hungry heart, in a snap to her did fly. Marta, marta, you have left me, And my heart with yours has vanished. Peace and quiet, gone now forever, I will surely die of pain.

Today, a birthday man.

You know, folks, those old movies are far better than the ones they show today.

@Letty,
and here for your pleasure the overture to Flotow's : " Martha " :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3580qeHwvgo&feature=fvwrel

Quote:
Martha, oder Der Markt zu Richmond (Martha, or The Market at Richmond) is a 'romantic comic' opera in four acts by Friedrich von Flotow, set to a German libretto by Friedrich Wilhelm Riese and based on a story by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges.

Flotow had composed the first act of a ballet, Harriette, ou la servante de Greenwiche, derived from a text by Saint-Georges, for the ballerina Adèle Dumilâtre. This was first performed by the Paris Opera Ballet at the Salle Le Peletier on 21 February 1844. The time available for the composition was short, so the second and third acts were assigned, respectively, to Friedrich Burgmüller and Édouard Deldevez. The opera Martha was an adaptation of this ballet

hbg, Love that German version of Martha. Here's what I found about Marta.

Marta is a Polish, Russian, Finnish, German, Icelandic, Hungarian, Georgian, Italian, Czech, Portuguese, Catalan and Spanish given name for females, derived from Hebrew (Judæo-Aramaic) name מַרְתָּא Martâ "The lady", but some sources claim that it was in use even before the establishment of Christianity, meaning dedicated to Mars. It had male form "Martinus" in Roman culture. It has been described as a cognate of Martha and as a feminine variation of Martinus.

edgar, hurry back and I really enjoyed "the jester's" If Dogs Run Free. Thanks again for yours and hbg's comments

Ran across this by accident, yawl.

Quote:
Franz von Suppé or Francesco Suppé Demelli (April 18, 1819 – May 21, 1895) was an Austrian composer of light operas who was born in what is now Croatia during the time his father was working in this outpost of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.[1][2] A composer and conductor of the Romantic period, he is notable for his four dozen operettas.

@Letty,
msletty ,
this morning's newspaper ( morgenblaetter ) has just arrived for you .
personally delivered by Johann Strauss :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4B9aAmet24

Quote:
Morgenblätter (Morning Journals) op. 279 is a waltz composed by Johann Strauss II in 1863. The work's genesis was attributed to the composition of another waltz by Jacques Offenbach later titled 'Abendblätter' when the French opera composer dedicated his work to the influential Vienna Authors' and Journalists' Association ('Concordia'). The Association had earlier intended the 'Abendblätter' waltz (untitled by Offenbach when first dedicated) to be played at their 'Concordia Ball' on 12 January 1864.
