today is the birthday of IMA SUMAC - a star of the fiefties :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vk_GjINYr8

Quote:
Yma Sumac ( /ˈiːmə ˈsuːmæk/; September 13, 1922 – November 1, 2008) was a noted Peruvian soprano. In the 1950s, she was one of the most famous proponents of exotica music. She became an international success based on her extreme vocal range, which was said to be "well over four octaves"[2] and was sometimes claimed to span even five octaves at her peak
...............................................................
In 1992, Guenter Czernetzky directed a documentary for German television entitled Yma Sumac – Hollywoods Inkaprinzessin (Yma Sumac – Hollywood's Inca Princess).

With the resurgence of lounge music in the late 1990s, Sumac's profile rose again when the song "Ataypura" was featured in the Coen Brothers film, The Big Lebowski. Her song "Bo Mambo" appeared in a commercial for Kahlúa liquor and was sampled for the song "Hands Up" by The Black Eyed Peas. The song "Gopher Mambo" was used in the films Ordinary Decent Criminal, Dead Husbands, Spy Games, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. "Gopher Mambo" was also used in an act of the Cirque Du Soleil show Quidam. The songs "Goomba Boomba" and "Malambo No. 1" appeared in Death to Smoochy Laughing . Yma Sumac is also mentioned in the lyrics of the 1980s song Joe le taxi by Vanessa Paradis.

euro, thanks for your comment, and I love Flor De Luna. I was inspired by Rockhead's flowers of the moon so long ago.

edgar, Harry never ceases to amaze me. Love Come Away Melinda. Don't know that one by him. Once again, thanks for the introduction.

Today is Colin Firth's birthday. First some info.

Colin Andrew Firth, CBE is an English film, television, and theatre actor. Firth gained wide public attention in the 1990s for his portrayal of Mr. Darcy in the 1995 television adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

Now, the tribute.

I have a brand new keyboard. If only I could get one for my piano.

@Letty,
Colin Firth probably will end his career with a half dozen Oscars or so. He's one cool/hot potato! Smile

So it's one down and five more to go!

@Letty,
Come Away Melinda by Harry Belafontsky, a nice tune.

Agree about Colin, not the hot spud part but he is a good actor. Smile

You had me Russian dancing there Miss Letty; while still sitting in my swivel chair.

Here are Modern Talking live in Moscow.
