@Ragman,
No problem, Ragman. Smile

I just now became obsessed with Shirley Bassey. She is now Dame Shirley Bassey. Here is another theme song that she sung:

@Letty,
An aside, re the thread, but I saw both Carmen films at about the same time.

This flamenco excerpt is from Antonio Gades' film Carmen.

Love Shirley Bassey and all that James Bond music. Moonraker is my favourite Shirley, bond song. My favourite Bond song has to be Louis singing 'We have all the time in the world' although there are so many good Bond songs and not forgetting the Bond music.
This is my favourite Bond music from the best Bond movie 'On her Majesty's Secret Service'.

@eurocelticyankee,
Thanks, euro! I just want to mention that there was a special cinematographer for the ski sequences in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I met the cinematographer when he did a presentation in Chicago showing his filming techniques. He designed movie camera lenses that resolved the problem of filming against bright snow.

Welcome back, euroGeorge. Hope all is well in Dublin.

osso, I guess of all the dances that I enjoy, Flamenco is the best. Love that version of Carmen.

Let's bundle them all and then we'll know. I think that I read most of Ian's books.

@Letty,
Hi Miss Letty, I was out of Dublin this w/e. We went to the Electric Picnic, it's a music/arts & crafts festival held once a year in Stradbally Hall, Co Laois.
Wonderful festival, highly recommend it. http://electricpicnic.ie/festivalinfo

Hi Wandel, 'necessity is the mother of invention'. That truly is a memorable scene.

As I was leaving Dublin this w/e there were 30,000 + Americans arriving. by all accounts I missed a great show and a great game.
Notre Dame Vs The Navy and the Fighting Irish won the day. Apparently the welcome show in Dublins O2 was brilliant, it's on youtube, I might watch it later.

I saw the fighting Irish in Belfast at the weekend.When will they ever learn? Sad
Back to the music -
The first Bacharach/David collaboration for Dionne Warwick. It was the start of a highly successful musical partnership. They wrote the song for Dionne after she recorded the demo of 'Make It Easy On Yourself', which they promptly gave to Jerry Butler. Ms.Warwick was not best pleased and after an argument said - "Guys, don't make me over!" A week later when all had been forgotten, Burt and Hal presented her with the song. It reached Number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100....

Loved those two tracks from Dionne & Cher and all them Bond theme's Miss Letty, so many great tracks.

Barry..... Laughing as for the idiots who left nearly 50 PSNI officers injured over the w/e, well strictly speaking they were not the fighting Irish, they were the fighting British, and as it goes they were Loyalists which means their even more British than the British themselves.

I seen this man over the w/e.

Ah, dear euroGeorge, thanks for your comments. The electric picnic and the fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Sleep well, my friend. Life is an ocean; love is a boat. Fantastic Irish song was The Voyage. Cathy Davey's Little Red was so dear.

Barry, Don't Make Me Over was a great one by Dionne.

edgar, I most certainly know Alfie, but not the information. Thanks, Texas.

One of my favorites by Thomas Moore supposedly written to his young wife who may have had small pox and shut herself from view in her bedroom. He wrote this poem to her and slipped it under the door.

edgar, Thanks again for your comment. Don't know I'd Rather Die Young by the man in black. Thanks for the introduction. Society Boogie by Hadda Brooks was new to me as well. Loved that boogie.

Going to say goodnight a bit early as it's been a long day.

First, Johnny.

today is the birthday of someone whose songs mrs. H enjoyed so much -
coming back to our stay in Texas in 1979 : the great Hank Thompson !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4xgOAc3lZg

Quote:
Henry William Thompson (September 3, 1925 – November 6, 2007), known professionally as Hank Thompson, was an American country music entertainer whose career spanned seven decades. He sold more than 60 million records worldwide.

Thompson's musical style, characterized as honky tonk Western swing, was a mixture of fiddles, electric guitar and steel guitar that featured his distinctive, smooth baritone vocals.

His backing band, The Brazos Valley Boys, was voted the top Country Western Band for 14 years in a row by Billboard. The primary difference between his music and that of Bob Wills was that Thompson, who used the swing beat and instrumentation to enhance his vocals, discouraged the intense instrumental soloing from his musicians that Wills encouraged; however, the "Hank Thompson sound" exceeded Bob Wills in Top 40 country hits.

Although not as prominent on the top county charts in later decades, Thompson remained a recording artist and concert draw well into his 80s.

The 1987 novel Crazy Heart by Thomas Cobb was inspired by Thompson's life, specifically by his practice of picking up a local band to back him when he toured. In 2009 Cobb's novel was turned into a successful film directed by Scott Cooper and starring Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges

( this song brought back wonderful memories ! )

edgar, Thanks again for your comment. Your goodnight song, Hey Jude, is one of my favorites by the "fab four"

hbg, Fantastic songs that you played here.

Just a Closer Walk with Thee by the Canadian Brass Band was great. My mom loved that one.

Hank Thomson's Wild Side of Life and String of Pearls also good ones.

Ah, Mitzi doing Anything Goes is one that describes A2K now.

Today is Percy B. Shelly's birthday. Wish that we could restore poetry here, and I'll give it a try.

Arose early this morning after dreaming a silly poem that I wrote so long ago about Autumn.
