@Barry The Mod,

WE had Seth McFarlane (Family Guy creator) on our TV news morning programme today.
He's coming back to the Proms at the Albert Hall to sing with the John Wilson Orchestra, magnificent group, marvellous arrangements.

BBC Radio on Monday evening.

Well, yawl, today is Thor's Day.

hbg, Loved Kath Lennon's "Goodbye Rome", and John Lee Hooker's song is worth playing twice.

Welcome back, Mac, and more synchronicity, because today is Gene Kelly's birthday. Seth did a great job on that one.

Two songs for the early morning here.

First, it's River Phoenix's birthday. Poor kid, gone to soon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Brq5vCFv96E&feature=related

and I'm borrowing this one from ehBeth, because it could be the same for River Phoenis.

Hurry back, edgar.

Eva does a nice version of Sting's 'Fields of Gold'.

A chilly day in Dublin today, brrrr.... hopefully this tune will warm us up.

@eurocelticyankee,
Blow a little of that chill down here, euro. Love Nigel's Down by the Mountain and that replication of him in hats.

Today is Gene Kelly's birthday, so here's a great tribute to the man. Actually, euro, dancing can warm you up.

@Letty,
Gene was one of the all time greats, such energy and style. Great video.

Here's a tune from Doug Paisley, he's a Canadian singer, Toronto I think. I seen him last year here in Dublin and enjoyed his show.
I think he's back here in September, hope so.

@eurocelticyankee,
Thanks for your comment, euro. Two Like Us by Doug was great. Don't know him, so thanks for the introduction. Incidentally, that fields of Gold was the continuation of a tribute to River Phoenix. Poor kid.

Here's another Two of us.

today is the birthday of Mark Russell - a great political funnyman - too bad he retired from PBS !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTn3trVRpII

Quote:
Mark Russell (born August 23, 1932 in Buffalo, New York) is an American political satirist/comedian. He also sings and plays the piano.

Mark Russell was born Mark Ruslander (he changed his name for stage purposes) and grew up in Buffalo, New York where he graduated from Canisius High School. After high school, his family moved briefly to Florida, then moved to Washington, D.C., where he enrolled at George Washington University, but stayed for only a month. He then joined the Marines.[1]

Russell is most famous for his series of PBS specials, aired live at least four times a year between 1975 and 2004. His comedy specials were a mix of political stand-up comedy covering current events and musical parodies, in which Russell accompanied himself on his trademark American flag themed piano. Russell's song parodies use melodies from old standards with new humorous lyrics pertinent to the subject matter.

and another birthday for today !
Tex Williams with that old standby
" smoke ! smoke ! smoke ! that cigarette ! " :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6gB89aThM0

Quote:
Sollie Paul Williams (August 23, 1917 – October 11, 1985), known professionally as Tex Williams, was an American Western swing musician from Ramsey, Illinois.

He is best known for his talking blues style; his biggest hit was the novelty song, "Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette)", which held the number one position on the Billboard charts for six weeks in 1947. "Smoke" was the No. 5 song on Billboard's Top 100 list for 1947, and was No. 1 on the country chart that year.[1] It can be heard during the opening scenes of the 2006 movie, Thank You for Smoking.

Hi Folks...
A happy birthday to Tex. I seen that tribute to River, Miss Letty. An awful shame. Oh I loved Bill singing 'Just the two of us', classic tune.
I'm going to introduce you to a guy called Pierce Turner, no relation to Ike, not that I know of anyway.
Pierce a Wexford man has had a few popular albums over here and has written songs for Christy Moore and others. I think in the early 70's he was in a New York band called 'The Major Thinkers', if anybody remembers them. Razz The Hot Press once dubbed him; "Joyce with a voice, Yeats on skates".
Here's two from him, the first one 'Wicklow Hills' was recorded by Christy Moore, I might play it later. I bet you he's not what you expected.... Cool

Pierce Turner.
Wicklow Hills.

Here's one from the Noisettes, I think the lead singer might have the same hairdresser as that guy in a Flock of Seagulls.

Ah, euro, you are so comedic. Thanks again for your humor, Irish.

Love that song by Rockin' Sydney. Don't Mess with My Toot Toot. (girlfriend, I think) Loved Noisettes' song and you bet her hair was there. Love it!

I was going to play My ding a ling, but it was a bit risque, so here is Al Jolson who broke all the rules.
