Eddie Jefferson- Benny's From Heaven.

A long time ago,
A second lieutenant named Spears
Returned to the States
After staying overseas three years
His wife said, "Welcome home, dear,
But since you've been gone, you see
We've been blessed with a darling baby,
And a cute little one is he."

She took that baby in her arms
And said, "Benny is his name."
He said, "I've been gone away three years,
Darling can you please explain?
So I won't feel so down,
Tell me, where did little Benny come from?"

And every time he'd ask, she's say, "Benny's from heaven."
His face got red but still she'd repeatedly say, "Benny's from heaven."
He said, I've asked the neighbors that come around
But no one can seem to remember Benny comin' down.
Now about,he said,about a little thing thing like this,
I ordinary shouldn't bother;
He said but Moma what little I know about children,
I'm sure they've got to have fathers.
And as I look at Benny,he said,I can plainly see,
Benny must be from heaven,
'Cause he darn sure ain't from me.

[meaningful instrumental break, a pause for reflection]

Trade them for a package
Of sunshine and flowers.
So if you want the things you love,
You must have showers.
And when you hear it thunder,
Don't run under a tree,
There'll be pennies from heaven,
For you and me.
Letty

@Barry The Mod,
Barry, That was a great one by Eddie Jefferson and funny as well. So, Benny was from heaven? Here's Della to sing about another kind of heaven.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for the comment, edgar. Funny one by Ben Colder. He was doing a parody on Tammy Wynette, right?

I don't know this man, but I have seen some episodes of Smallsville so here is a tribute to him.

I thought your birthday boy was the best Lex Luthor of them all. The show was kid stuff, for the most part, but he was very good.

Reyn, Love Lionel Richie and that funny dog introduced him quite well with hello.

edgar, Great one about Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid; Of course, I really like Knockin on Heaven's door by "the jester" as you know.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs.

First a great tribute to E.B. White whose birthday is today, from a student's version of Charlotte's Web.

I know that I have played this one many times, but I love it and hope that all of us do as well.

Still nothing from euroGeorge, nor yitwail, nor eBert Lee.

Carrie will be representing me at Brucie's memorial service tomorrow.

From Letty to all wherever you are.

EB White was a great writer. I read the book of Charlotte's Web many years ago.
One of the earliest records in my collection was an EPA album by Mario. Serenade was on it.

@edgarblythe,
sorry for the absence ! Embarrassed

better late than never ?????

i'll try to make up for it !

let's wish Blind Lemon Jefferson a happy birthday - with his own song :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTX1rNr6izs&feature=fvst

Quote:
"Blind" Lemon Jefferson (Lemon Henry Jefferson; September 24, 1893 – December 19, 1929) was an American blues singer and guitarist from Texas. He was one of the most popular blues singers of the 1920s, and has been titled "Father of the Texas Blues".[2]

Jefferson's singing and self-accompaniment were distinctive as a result of his high-pitched voice and originality on the guitar.[3] Though his recordings sold well, he was not so influential on some younger blues singers of his generation, who could not imitate him as they could other commercially successful artists.

Quote:
Kálmán was born Imre Koppstein in Siófok, on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, Hungary (formerly Austria-Hungary) in a Jewish family.

Kálmán initially intended to become a concert pianist, but because of early-onset arthritis, he focused on composition instead. He studied music theory and composition at the National Hungarian Royal Academy of Music (then the Budapest Academy of Music), where he was a fellow student of Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály under Hans Kössler. His early symphonic poems were well-received, although he failed to achieve publication.

However, the popularity of his humorous cabaret songs led him towards the composition of operettas. His first great success was Tatárjárás - Ein Herbstmanöver in German, meaning 'Autumn Maneuver', although the English title is The Gay Hussars, which was first staged at the Lustspieltheater in Budapest, on 22 February 1908. Thereafter he moved to Vienna where he achieved worldwide fame by composing his operettas Der Zigeunerprimas, Die Csárdásfürstin, Gräfin Mariza, and Die Zirkusprinzessin. ( circusprincess )
