@edgarblythe,
Snooze away, edgar, and thanks for restoring out signal. Your Clovers reminded me of Roy Rogers. I recall as a child going to the movie just to hear this song.

Going to redo Glen again because his song about Glaveston was really about the Spanish American War.

When I was a boy I did not care much for Roy Rogers. The flash and glitter put me off. I was in love with a different vision of the old west. These days I like Roy's singing and will listen to him, especially if the Sons of the Pioneers accompany him.
They are rerunning The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin on the weekends, I've noticed. Not a bad kids' show. In one grade of school, we read aloud in class the novel version of Lassie Come Home.

edgar, I didn't think about the man, just the horse. I was so into animals when I was a kid.

They left out Grey Friars Bobby, incidentally.

Don't know Larry Verne, but The Okeefenokee swamp I do know. Loved that two step idea.

Hey, Brit. Amy McDonald's Born to run was fantastic. Especially liked the acoustic guitar.

Today is Arlo's birthday, and here is a great song by him. It also tells a story.

ah, I never think of frogs. (found a tiny dead one in my Florida room, and I will keep him forever) that I don't think of this one. Can't remember all the lyrics, but here are some of them.

A Frog he would a courtin' go, Heigh-ho, says Rowley,
Whether this mother would let him or no,
With a Roley, Poley, Gammon and Spinach, Heigh-ho says Anthony Rowley

Another birthday boy before I climb the apples and it's possible that our PD has seen him -

Edward Lee Morgan was born in Philadelphia on July 10, 1938, the youngest of Otto Ricardo and Nettie Beatrice Morgan's four children.

Lee Morgan, a leading trumpeter and composer, recorded prolifically from 1956 until a day before his death in February 1972. Originally interested in the vibraphone, he soon showed a growing enthusiasm for the trumpet. Morgan also knew how to play the alto saxophone. On his thirteenth birthday, his sister Ernestine gave him his first trumpet. His primary stylistic influence was Clifford Brown, who gave the teenager a few lessons before he joined the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band at 18, and remained a member for a year and a half, until the economic situation forced Dizzy to disband the unit in 1958. He began recording for Blue Note Records in 1956, eventually recording 25 albums as a leader for the company, with more than 250 musicians. He also recorded on the Vee-Jay label.

He was a featured sideman on several early Hank Mobley records, as well as on John Coltrane's Blue Train (1957), on which he played a trumpet with an angled bell (given to him by Gillespie) and delivered one of his most celebrated solos on the title track.

Joining Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in 1958 further developed his talent as a soloist and composer. He toured with Blakey for a few years, and was featured on numerous albums by the Messengers, including Moanin', which is one of the band's best-known recordings. When Benny Golson left the Jazz Messengers, Morgan persuaded Blakey to hire Wayne Shorter, a young tenor saxophonist, to fill the chair. This version of the Jazz Messengers, including pianist Bobby Timmons and bassist Jymie Merritt, recorded the classic The Freedom Rider album. The drug problems of Morgan and Timmons forced them to leave the band in 1961, and the trumpeter returned to Philadelphia, his hometown. According to Tom Perchard, a Morgan biographer, it was Blakey who introduced the trumpeter to heroin, an addictive drug that impeded his career trajectory.

Hank Williams
I think this was his biggest hit song during his lifetime. I forget for certain, but it may have been a Fred Rose composition.

@Barry The Mod,
Loved that Ze Ramalho, Barry!
Reminded me of some of the Italian music I love - de Andre in particular. De Andre's lyrics are sometime quite out there, though.

Now to learn some portuguese.
So now I'll have to check out more of his.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, thanks again for your comments. Ah, Love Sick Blues by Hank. I guess I remember him best for I'm So Lonesome I could Cry. I think we have all decided that he is a poet with his lyrics.

Barry, I know most of those jazz musicians. Lee Morgan's Tom Cat was great. I cannot believe that Art got his stuck on heroin. What a let down.

Welcome back, Osso/Jo, and thanks for your comments. I'm with you on the languages.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs. First, a birthday man that I do not know, but he does his music in Cantonese. Here's some info.

Cantonese, or Standard Cantonese, is a language that originated in the vicinity of Canton (i.e. Guangzhou) in southern China, and is often regarded as the prestige dialect of Yue Chinese.

Now, one of my favorite jazz melodies.

Welcome back Reyn tin tin. Love Call Me by Blondie.

Barry, Kate Bush's song about the Celtic lady was great. Reminds me of euroGeorge. Sad

A weather alert awakened me early, so here is another Jethro Tull song. Last concert that I saw.
