Good early morning from Florida and it's still dark.

Barry, thanks for the instrumental feedback. Sarah Lee Guthrie's Almanac Singers was great. (nobody doesn't like Sarah Lee)

Thanks for the original song by Billy. Didn't know that it was European Queen. Gerry and the Pacemakers; Joy Division; Super Tramp all good songs. Hope I didn't goof, as I overate last evening.

Reyn, Great song by Moody Blues.

edgar, Really liked The Ramrods version of Ghost Riders as well as your Windows Up Above by George. Great ones.

A birthday guy who I really enjoy.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for restoring our signal and your comment about Steve. Glad he didn't sing Bluesette for me.

Brook Benton's version of "the man in black" was great.

Couple of songs for the afternoon.

Barry loved Lady in Red, and here's a lady in black.

In the decades since Rudolph Valentino's death in 1926, one of Hollywood's odder, more macabre rituals has unfolded every Aug. 23 at his crypt -- the mysterious appearance of a Lady in Black.

Her face obscured by a black veil, her identity more or less unknown, a Lady in Black (or sometimes several of them) would silently place roses at the tomb of the silver screen's "Great Lover" on the anniversary of his death from natural causes at age 31.

That Long Black Veil song may have been about Rudolph.

Someone named Alex did a movie of him, but I cannot find it.

And, for oolongteacup, a memory by Fred and Red.

Wikipedia:
The writers of Long Black Veil later stated that they drew on three sources for their inspiration: Red Foley's recording of "God Walks These Hills With Me", a contemporary newspaper report about the unsolved murder of a priest, and the legend of a mysterious veiled woman who regularly visited Rudolph Valentino's grave. Dill himself called it an "instant folksong."

Wilkin played piano on the original recording by Frizzell. The song was a departure from Frizzell's previous honky tonk style and was a deliberate move toward the current popularity of folk-styled material and the burgeoning Nashville sound.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the additional info on Long Black Veil, and Glenn Miller's Perfidia was great.

Now I remember who did a movie on Rudolph Valentino. It was Anthony Dexter.

@Barry The Mod,
Welcome back, Barry. Fit as a Fiddle and Ready for Love was a great one by "the eternal virgin". She stood by Rock Hudson up to the bitter end.

Ah, dear Fats. We went to see a revival of his show in Roanoke, Va. so many years ago.

Hmmm. Something tells me you did not mean The Apollo Theatre, Brit.

Here's a Broadway tribute.

Hurry back, Brit. Loved the Chopin theme from The Pianist. More synchronicity. Once I mentioned that a lawyer in Virginia was an Orthodox Jewish guy who had to wait for his mother to die before he could marry a gentile.

They had one son whose name was Joel and he played drums sometimes with the jazz boys. He was from Poland and we just recently discovered that he had died.

edgar, you hurry back as well. Loved Bread's The guitar Man, and thanks for your comment on Billy.

I invited JLNobody here because yesterday was Marc Chagall's birthday. JL still plays the violin and does his beautiful abstract art.

Saying goodnight with two songs.

First Warsaw Concerto.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTtgf5QIRFg&feature=related

Now, a fantastic song of the Gullah dialect.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlGyu7l3KcU&feature=related

We have often discussed different dialects and that song truly reflects the patois.

Here is the painting.

Didn't know All Through the Night by that lovely lady, but it was quite good.

Ah, Too Bad about Ernest. I recall McHale's Navy and here are a few more of his great movies.
