A final note on Phil Ochs. He was strangled by a mugger in Africa. His singing voice was never the same. He went so long with no new songs that some staff at A&M records began wearing "Inspire Phil Ochs" buttons. He tried unsuccessfully to commit suicide a few times. But he succeeded, eventually.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again, edgar, for your comments. Your song by Phil Ochs inspired me to find this poem.

The Falling of the Leaves

AUTUMN is over the long leaves that love us,
And over the mice in the barley sheaves;
Yellow the leaves of the rowan above us,
And yellow the wet wild-strawberry leaves.

The hour of the waning of love has beset us,
And weary and worn are our sad souls now;
Let us part, ere the season of passion forget us,
With a kiss and a tear on thy drooping brow.

William Butler Yeats

Also appreciated your explanation and information on the Ochs guy. He was bi-polar. It often happens to creative people.

Today is this lady's birthday, and since my mama loved them, I think that I play her with Nelson Eddy.

Quote:
Hugo Winterhalter (August 15, 1909 – September 17, 1973) was an American musician.

An easy listening arranger and composer, Winterhalter was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Mount St. Mary's near Emmitsburg, Maryland in 1931, where he played saxophone for the orchestra and sang in two of the choirs. He later studied violin and reed instruments at the New England Conservatory of Music. After graduating, he taught school for several years before turning professional during the mid 1930s, serving as a sideman and arranger for Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Raymond Scott, Claude Thornhill and others.

Winterhalter also arranged and conducted sessions for singers including Dinah Shore and Billy Eckstine, and in 1948 he was named musical director at MGM Records. After a two-year stint with the record label, he moved to Columbia Records, where he scored a hit with his orchestral reading of "Blue Christmas."

edgar, Loved Smoke on the Water by Pat and thanks again for your comment.

Hey, Brit. Don't know Kate Armiger. Once again you sent me searching.

Kaitlyn Michelle "Katie" Armiger (born June 27, 1991) is a country artist from Sugar Land, Texas. She was first inspired to pursue country music after winning a Houston, Texas city-wide competition for young country singers. To date, Armiger has released three albums for Cold River Records and has charted four singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Good song by the lady

Do know That Ain't Good by Hank, jr.

Ah, The Shaft man Issac. Thanks for the memory.

hbg, I remember Canadian Sunset best by Andy Williams.

Hope I didn't miss anyone, and it's time for me to say goodnight. I think that I shall do so with two songs. First, Perry

Now, the first one that I heard by Sir Elton.

As most of you know, I like to seek out the original stuff.

So nice to have Canada and London with us today

From Letty with love to everyone

Odd, I awakened this morning to Finlandia as a jazz instrumental. This isn't it, but it comes close.

and, yawl, today is John Donne's birthday, so here is Van with a tribute to him, but first, the poem.

Death Be Not Proud

Death be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not soe,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill mee.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.
John Donne

Now Van the Man.

@Barry The Mod,
Wow! Didn't know that was Van singing. Didn't know that Peter Sellers was a Brit either. What a talent he was.

Here's a funny one by Hugh. My older sister and I used to play this as a duo on the piano.
