About two days ago I watched that same tribute to Pernell Roberts. I remember liking him very much. Even bought one of his record albums.

@edgarblythe,
The Water is Wide is a great one by Pernell, edgar. I recall watching some of the episodes of Trapper John, MD. He was a fine actor and a great singer.

Another birthday man, so first some info.

Wakeman (Rick) was born in West London. He purchased his first electronic keyboard at 12 years of age. In 1968, he studied the piano, clarinet, orchestration and modern music at the Royal College of Music before leaving after a year in favour of session music work. He went on to feature on songs by artists including Ozzy Osbourne, David Bowie, T. Rex, Elton John and Cat Stevens. Wakeman joined the folk group Strawbs in 1969 and played on three of their albums. He first joined Yes in 1971 to replace Tony Kaye, and left the group in 1974 to work on his solo career. He returned in 1976 before leaving with lead vocalist Jon Anderson in 1980. Wakeman was part of the side project Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe, a group of ex-Yes members formed in 1989, and the eight-member Yes line-up that followed until his third departure in 1992. He returned for two years in 1995 and once more in 2002, where he was part of the band's 35th anniversary tour until its end in 2004.

Now, the tribute

I have known of Rick Wakeman for years. This was the first time I recall actually hearing him. His song reminds me of this one.

@edgarblythe,
I love that one by Donovan, edgar. Wonder what he meant by "....the raven peeps, while the jester sleeps.."

euro, sleep well, and I had to smile at that one by ABBA. Will tell you why later.

Another birthday lady, and since I don't know her, we'll provide this information for our listeners and contributors.

Dame Margot Fonteyn de Arias, DBE (18 May 1919 – 21 February 1991), was an English ballerina of the 20th century. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest classical ballet dancers of all time. She spent her entire career as a dancer with the Royal Ballet, eventually being appointed Prima Ballerina Assoluta of the company by HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Now she and her companion do a lovely ballet together.

Evening Ms Letty,Ed and all WA2K peeps.
I've been a closet fan of Mr Wakeman for years.His album Journey To The Center Of The Earth was played many times.
The movie Crouching Tiger;Hidden Dragon was one of the very few movies I walked out of but it is on my DVD shelf.
Dame Margot and Mr Nureyev were the cream of the crop back in the days.
Here's Katie,live,as it should be,from the best jazz club in London....

the BBC reports :

Quote:
The respected German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau has died, aged 86.

Once described as "the most influential singer of the 20th Century", he was famed for his performances of Winter's Journey (Winterreise) by Schubert.

Born in Berlin in May 1925, he emerged as a performer after World War II and was swiftly recognised as one of his generation's finest lyrical vocalists.

Benjamin Britten personally asked him to perform in the first performance of his War Requiem in May 1962.

The premiere famously took place in the rebuilt Coventry Cathedral, which had been destroyed in a bombing raid in 1940.

"To my generation, he was something so special that one was always awestruck," the English mezzo-soprano Dame Janet Baker told Sean Rafferty on Radio 3's In Tune programme.

"One just bows before the artistry and the sheer beauty of the sound he made."

Good morning from Florida. What fantastic music hbg played as well as our Barry. Love the comment about the color of a woman's hair.

edgar, enjoyed your goodnight song as well. euro, I know what inspired you to play ABBA's song. That person's screen name was rather close to theirs. Razz

I'm sorry that I cannot acknowledge each writer and performer. Especially enjoyed Jools Holland's jazz piece.

Two songs for the AM. First, my telling song by Ella. (loved her How Deep is the Ocean)

What a surprise to me. Clint's son's birthday. He does my greeting to all for me.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, thanks again for your comment. As you know, I love The Bee Gees, and Tis the Morning of My Life is great.

Here's one to match by Glen. I know his short term memory is going to be fine. I call it cognitive insight. (creative thinking)
