In the tiny piece of coloured glass my love was born
And reds and golds and yellows were the colours in the dawn.
Night brought on it's purple cloak of velvet to the sky
And the girls go willing spinning on Jersey Thursday.

Looks like mere poetic license to me, letty.

@edgarblythe,
thanks, edgar, for the explanation. Yes, certain poetry doesn't need to be explained.

Don't know that oldie by Buddy Rodgers, Texas. A Ship Without a Sail was great.

Don't think that I will play My Ship Has Sails that are made of silk, instead how about a wreck.

i've been watching a lot of British train documentaries lately

here's a British train poem

Adlestrop
Edward Thomas

Yes, I remember Adlestrop –
The name because one afternoon
Of heat the express-train drew up there
Unwontedly. It was late June.

The steam hissed. Someone cleared his throat.
No one left and no one came
On the bare platform. What I saw
Was Adlestrop – only the name

And willows, willow-herb, and grass,
And meadowsweet, and haycocks dry,
No whit less still and lonely fair
Than the high cloudlets in the sky.

And for that minute a blackbird sang
Close by, and round him, mistier,
Farther and farther, all the birds
Of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

and a British train song, The Kinks - Last of the Steam-Powered Trains

Check this out. I just learned of this song from a musician friend a few minutes ago. Pretty good listening and fantastic images.

While I'm on the subject of Tracy Grammer, here's her cover of a classic, great song:

And in a whole different musical direction, a classic song with 2 of the best and surprisingly well-matched singers:

What marvelous music has been played on our radio. Wish I could acknowledge each one, but unfortunately, your PD/Producer is unable to do so. edgar, I alway got Charlie Pride and Charlie Rich mixed up. Love them both. Thanks for your comments, Texas

Nice to see dj with us, and Ragman/Russ was really on a roll. Of course it's always good to see our Brit with us.

Saying goodnight with a poem and a railroad song.

First the poem.

Silver

Slowly, silently, now the moon
Walks the night in her silver shoon;
This way, and that, she peers, and sees
Silver fruit upon silver trees;
One by one the casements catch
Her beams beneath the silvery thatch;
Couched in his kennel, like a log,
With paws of silver sleeps the dog;
From their shadowy cote the white breasts peep
Of doves in silver feathered sleep
A harvest mouse goes scampering by,
With silver claws, and silver eye;
And moveless fish in the water gleam,
By silver reeds in a silver stream.
Walter de la Mare

Now, the train song.

As a kid I lived near a switching yard. I loved to see the steam trains come through. The diesels that replaced them seemed impersonal and I lost interest in the engines after those took over.

De la Mare used the word silver at least once in the majority of his poems, it sometimes seems.

@edgarblythe,
Good morning Miss Letty, Ed & all at WA2K.

First off, I'd smoke weed with Willie anytime... Brilliant, who sang that Ed?

I was comfortably listening to the music last night when I was called out, but have decided to give myself a day off today to make up for it, he he.
I really liked "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", great track and powerful video.
The songs by Roger Whittaker and Buddy Rogers were both great. Synchronicity Razz .
I'm bringing Ben to the park, Later.....

Good early morning from Florida.

Hey, Brit. My mama played banjo and that Sleepy man banjo Boys was great. Sleep well, London.

edgar, Hilarious song. I'll never smoke weed with Willie again.

euro, Welcome back to you once again. Wow! Paul Brady's Irish jacobite was excellent as were the visuals, and thanks again for your comments.

Today is Irving Berlin's birthday, so here is a tribute to him.
